Buy another one and then sell it afterwards? Have you tried plugging it in to a PC to see if there's any life in it? Charge it for a while too.

or ask nicely if you can borrow someones and get the replacement model sent to them

Or take it back to where you got it from with a camp chair, and a small picnic, then sit in the middle of the shop until they exchange it?
Or is that just me that does that?

Is it possible to disable some of the screens on the Edge 800?
I'd like to have mine setup so that only the map and the 'stats' screens show up. I don't use all that shadow rider shit, nor do I care about altitude profiles or whatever the other screen is for.

Yup - spanner > bike settings > training pages > set virtual partner and elevation to off.
You can also customise the stats page(s) in the timer pages section in that bit (there are loads that don't display as default, and you can cram loads on to one page if needs be... )

Ta, got it in AQA thread. Got annoyed having to cycle through so many pointless screens.

Mine died yesterday. Would not turn on at all. Couldn't reset. Nothing at all. Phoned Garmin this morning, and to give them their due somebody answered the freephone number straight away and was very polite. Unfortunately they said send it back for a replacement, and no they won't pay postage, even though it is in warranty. They can get a new one to me in 10 days. Shame I'm going on on holiday, on Monday, with the bike, and had been hoping not to have to rely on shite French road signs, and the Mitchelin map book on the way down. Ce la vie / first world problems.
So the new one just delivered to me in France today. Pretty good service really despite my earlier moaning.

Does anyone know how to get the 800 to display contours like the 705? I like being able to see those hills but the 800 uses some fancy shading to indicate a climb. Bastards.
-
• #162
oh wait, it does show contours just not as frequently, shading underneath. Semi-win

• #163
You can probably tweak that. I turned it off.
In other news my 800 + Extended battery pack lasted the whole 24hr and didn't fail at 400k like a lot of people had been reporting. I actually tried to reset it at 500k to save the data but it didn't do anything. In the end it recorded every fine (except the first 15min which I forgot to hit Start for).

• #164
Did you use it for power, or a seperate head unit for that?
-
• #165
Both.

• #166
You used it for power, and had a second head unit?

Seems my garmin had issue with recording elevation data this morning, had my elevation leaving london and then just near flat or downhill when going uphill.
What can affect this? How does it record it?
