  • I've spent a long time on this need to send it off to its owner on Monday.

I've already started another one for myself *facepalm

  • Very impressive!

Just about got away with this, couple of small touch ups. I'm never doing a box art sandscorcher again..

  • Wanted to try something other than box art.

  • Where do you start? My boy is super keen on RC aircraft and cars. I've suggested that a car is a good place to start, but have no idea what I am doing.

Are they all balls fast? We have a couple of shitty cheap ones, but they suck. I had a mini hopper when I was a nipper, but that is the extent of my experience

Made for breaking any RC. 😎

You can get ready to run stuff easily. Have a look at the selection on Modelsport

They can be balls fast. There are some RTR products that are designed to be really fast. The problem is the quicker they go the more damage you do when you crash them...

  • Yeah I was definitely thinking slower! I assume an off road job that is slow and forgiving us the place to start

    Thanks for the link

  • Looks like loads of new manufacturers available.

We have a couple of Nikko tanks / trucks which are not too tame and hard waring.

I think into the teens Tamiya prolly more approriate.

  • Age dependant, but building is great fun.

RE speed, stock Tamiya 540 brushed motors are not considered fast, but certainly are not slow, especially for a kid.
Most controllers (transmitters) will have some sort of adjustment, so you can tune it to only dish out part throttle until they master it, then turn it up little by little until full tilt, then you will be looking at upgrading to faster motors, etc.

  • I hadn't though about other vehicles. Thanks

  • That is interesting to know and probably solves the problem of him being so young. Thanks

  • Still in one piece. 😎👌

  • Slow progress on this. As it's mine I'm going to set it aside for a while, I have a Yokomo RX7 to do.😬

  • Looking good!

  • We were going through some old stuff in a storage unit recently and found this. Brought back loads of childhood memories. Mainly of wishing I had more pocket money so I could spend it there!

  • I remember having the Tamiya catalogue and lusting after pretty much everything in it as a kid. There were some pics of amazing RC race tracks in there as well as the RC vehicles. It is probably still in my parent's loft!

  • Oh wow! Used to love going to Beatties when on holiday in GB when I was a kid. My dad and me could spend hours in there

  • Was out for a walk in the woods with the fam yesterday and a group of kids were running their RC buggies round this natural bowl where there are a rope swings. One 8(ish) year old had this massive truck that professor google now tells me was a Traxas X MAxx. Thing was genuinely scary. Scary expensive as well apparently. The kid was hooning it about doing some serious jumps and throwing up a satisfying trail of dried leaves in its wake. Pretty sure it would break an adult's leg and easily vaporise a toddler if misdirected. Absolute beast of a thing.

  • Aye is 1/8 truggy.

They have become the electric scooter of the RC world.

I'm sure there have been instances as described.

  • i found a mini hopper for theo in a charity shop, if anyone is interested. shame it's white, not red, but it is perfect for him to get going on - he loves it.
