Yeah I really want to run them. Ideally I'd like to race the Egress / Avante in vintage meets.

Then don't be too worried about scratches. Maybe cut a bit of the poly off the shell surround (new one) and try exceedingly fine sand paper, should imagine it will get rid of the scuffs but make the shell look cloudy.

Ohhhhh, hopefully see you there with the TF

I've dug my Dark Impact out to take to the park tomorrow with my daughter - it's been a couple of years since I've had it running , so hopefully she should be old enough now to have a go properly.
I never liked the paint job much, which was sort of the point as it's definitely a basher. I'm really inspired by the lovely Top Force here to have another crack at painting it better.

Love a dark impact, really fun car to drive.

Neighbour just dug this out his garage and gave it to me for the kids. Charged the 1800 Nicad for 3.5hr and unplugged as was warm. Set up the car - result was steering would operate briefly and then judder and stop - car would creep forward and back a bit but then nothing. Is this simple as the battery is knackered from sitting in a shed for multiple years ?

Battery is fucked or not charged properly
Car looks alreet though. What is it?

'Ready to run' - all in one 1/10th buggy - from horizon - not sure of age but it appears the dynamite battery is still available.

Cool. Battery looks like it has a Tamiya connector on it - anything of the same dimension and voltage will work as a replacement. It’s probably a generic 7.2v stick pack.

Blow torch. One of those little kitchen chef ones would be best. Pass it over the area quickly (ie not long enough to melt the plastic) and it’ll glaze over the scratches.

Interesting, thanks. Think I’d do a test run on an off cut before attempting it on the real thing :)
Looks good with Egress wheels.

Looks loads better, never really liked the Avante wheels, what about with DF03 wheels?
-
• #1190
Black DF03? It's had the orange ones on previously when I've run it.
The black set are still backed up in the post somewhere.

Yep, they work, but black is best!

Enjoyed taking the car out.
It was hesitant to accelerate from time to time - you'd push forward and it just didn't go, and other times seemed to stutter without any input. This was driving near an industrial estate with lots of aerial masts (attached picture) - we took it to a wooded area a little way away and it seemed ok.
It might well be something electrical in the car - but does it sound plausible that it was being interfered with? Running 27mhz if that's relevant.

It could be. I had 27mhz in the boat and used to have stuttering throttle. Went to 2.4Ghz and never a blink.

Genuinely struggling not to buy a Tamiya while on furlough. Might treat myself when work/money is back to normal if I’m still watching build vids on YouTube all the time ;)
Grasshopper or something on a tt02 chassis for a first build?
-
• #1195
DT 02 and 03 are fairly basic builds, not overly challenging, but just enough to give you summat to think about. All Tamiya kits are pretty straightforward due to the excellent instructions.

So a neo fighter would be a good entry price build that’s potentially worth hopping up if I get keen? Build with ballrace bearings from the outset whatever I get I’m guessing?
-
• #1197
a neo fighter
I'd go for a TT - 02B build over that. You get 4WD and oil filled shocks for the extra pocket money.

That's interesting - thanks. I've been meaning to make that move, and to a trigger controller at the same time (though that's 20 years of muscle memory to overcome...). Might do that whilst I've got a bit of time at home

I have a BMW almost ready built minus engine & battery, and with a spare shell if you wanted one to run and one for show.
Schnitzer M3 from 20 odd years ago.
I also have a couple of old controllers and a load of odds and sods
Let me know if you want any photos etc

I went for Racing Fighter (DT03) 2wd build over a TT02b for better ground clearance (for off road duty) less faff over 4wd.
Comes with oil dampers, ESC, Torque Tuned motor (brushed) has a few carbon hop ups readily available.
I'm waiting on bearings to finish the build.
Was £100 from Fusion Hobbies, but you'll spend that again on batteries, chargers, transmitter/ receiver, paint and bearings easily enough.
(Check whatever you get comes with ESC and motor, not all do.)
Box art is always for the shelf, not that I have a shelf queen, think they should always be run, and if the shell gets a little tatty, so be it.
