Progress stalled recently, because of obvious reasons, but tinkered a bit this eve by shimming the hubs, c-hubs and drive shafts to remove slop.
Mostly 0.1/0.2 mm shims, but the gaps are enough to cause some niggly issues with the steering and power transmission.

Existing and quite stingy is 18mm - reckon 25mm would do it.

I just found an old ebay folder on my computer and honestly didn't realise the amount to Tamiya cars I used to own and then sold about 15 years back.. some of my favs below.. I would kill for any of them now.. although it would prob be the delta..

Yeah, thinking maybe a sharpie

Translucent red backed with gun metal. The sharp/deep parts of the shell picked up less red giving some really nice highlights.

I’ve got a wider wing for racing in the future and I’m already looking at carbon damper stays.......

So I was in interested in a more 'modern' and robust chassis and wasn't really interested in a TA or TLR.
The DB01 chassis was released in 2007 so it's pretty 'vintage' itself, but hey, why not. It's robust 'club level' racing chassis with a simple two belt transmission based on the TRF 501.
Ordered one from Japan, it got shipped over just before all this cray cray kicked off. Paid a bit of VAT and admin on it but there we go.

As you can see, plastic fantastic. Not a hint of Carbon or FRP. Some aluminium used in the motor mount and steering pivots.
I did pick up the carbon reinforced 'R' chassis that also accommodates different battery layouts and types. Additionally it features a cut out where you bolt in a motor heatsink. That's on its way from Hong Kong. Should it ever arrive, it's a fetching blue colour.

I ordered a high strength steel hex screw kit from Germany and a thread tapping set. All the screws are machine type, and the kit screws will be absolute bastards to both drive and tap the plastics at the same time. Even in a tapped hole they would probably still be a bugger to drive, hence the hex drive kit.

The chassis has some neat features.
In recognition of its intended use - it's gonna get crashed a lot - the chassis is very burly. There are no front and rear bulkheads, the chassis is the full length of the car. The suspension pivot mounts bolt on to the underneath of the chassis, presumably expendable in a crash.
The front and rear transmission are the mirror image of each other, every component - diff, cover, belt - is the same, front and rear. Only the suspension mounts differ.
The belt transmission is entirely enclosed once fully built up.
The diffs have a neat eccentric belt tension adjusting system.

I like the look of the Durga, keep us updated.

Apart from the awful car names, the DB01 is a great chassis

Don't mind Durga, but Baldre?

So out of the DB01 box there is no clutch.
A clutch is available as a hop-ups and the manual recommends using one if using modified or high power brushless. Curiously there is a 'single' and a 'double' slipper available. As far as I know, the single allows only the spur gear to slip, whereas the double allows the two drive belt pulleys to slip independently of the spur gear.
I picked up the double slipper from eBay - here's the parts. Wow.

Spent a very entertaining 30 mins or so with the kids razzing this round a (self-isolated) gravel car park yesterday, they LOVED it. Cheered me right up :)
How long?
