• (not some flimsy piece of plastic that singspeed used to create his prototype)

It's called a prototype for a reason. I used the cover of a ring binder I had to hand when I read the post and decided to try making one.

Was looking into making improvements and having a company laser cut/score some out of thick but flexible LDPE for me.

  • Yes. I know what a prototype is, I didn't say that you had created a finished product, I was merely stating the original is better than I expected after seeing it first hand.

I've got to ask though. How much is it going to cost to design, source and manufacture your own? Is it really worth it?

  • If I make 100 I can bring my version to the forum members at a fraction of the price. Just depends on how many people are interested.

  • Good luck.

  • I think £20 for a bit of plastic is pushing it.. that price would be relying on exclusivity. You can get a full set of SKS chromoplastics for £25 (obv not the same thing, or scale, but you see where I'm going). Without a patent the price will inevitably fall.

  • I don't think it will cost anywhere near £20 for one. There is a patent pending on this design as well. I should have a sample on me later and think I'm heading to SE beers if anyone is interested in this fascinating bit of plastic!

  • these SKS ones which are very popular are about £12 everywhere

so I would say no more than £15.

  • murtle has some experience with this https://www.lfgss.com/thread15910.html

I don't understand what it is they'd have a patent on. The use of the flex in the plastic to hold it onto a bike as a fender? I had a slightly different idea where it would work in a similar way to those snap wristbands. Don't know if that would infringe on thier pending patent though...

  • I have had the fendor bendor thing for a long while now and really pleased with it!

  • Just to highlight this http://www.lfgss.com/post2284579-34452.html

  • ^That's for front/rear pairs, for those of us cynics who didn't think <£20 was anything special for single Boomers.

  • Best Buy have some real buying power! That's less than cost price to nearly every other retailer.

  • And if you price match with evans cycles, you get free postage to your door!

  • just did this. hopefully they'll accept it, they should to though. right?

  • knog lights are shit. diabollically so.

perhaps, but i've never had one so i'll make the judgement for myself

  • 50/50 chance they'll die within a year...

  • I've got both kinds as rear lights, and think the Boomer is more visible than the Flea, although the Flea is very good too.

  • I've got a Knog rear light, it's been working for a couple of years now- nice and bright, does the job.

I've treated it to regular drenchings and it's (so far) never missed a beat.

  • They are poo.
