Jesus Christ, that's frightening. Sid James being cheered on by Richard Attenborough, two Norman Wisdoms, and a load of Leatherfaces.

I don't remember being a pro cyclist in 1985. I don't remember many things from when I was four though.

^that's a lovely shot.
Such incredible rivals on the bike, to the point of hating each other.
When he retired, Roger had a kid and named him Eddie.

When did Merckx start riding his own branded bicycles? I guess this photo dates from 1969-70, which is fairly early in the context of his career.

He rode them for ages - don't know when it started though. I believe he used to ride bikes that were different from the rest of his team and rebadged them with his own name to disguise the fact, but I can't remember where I heard that, so it may be bollocks.

I think he started riding his own brand bikes when he joined Faema.
They were built by Ugo De Rosa and Ernesto Colnago, although I forget what the dates were for each.

Thanks guys. The dangerous thing about this photo is that it makes me never want to wear a helmet.

When you're as awesome as Ed and Rog you don't need a helmet, just lovely hair and natty caps.

Yeah, he really hated children, including his own.
