Hey Oliver, i've put a link above to a mapmyride route - that should be working?
Yes, I saw that. I just thought I'd mention the other one in case you wanted to edit the OP.
We did this route last weekend and it was fantastic - but yeah had a little difficulty navigating Gatwick but think we have it sorted now... involved going through a hotel car park and jumping a wooden gate! All fun though.
There is a way through where you don't have to jump any gates. :)
As for Ditchling i've never tried it myself as riding fixed gear - although I hear that hasn't stopped a lot of people so may try it this time. Think it's quite nice to have the option at the end of either tackling Ditchling or hitting the A23... which was actually a nice downhill cruise into Brighton last time.
This time I'll stop being a pussy though and try Ditchling!
Oh, it's strictly optional to do Ditchling--I was just surprised. As I said, the A23 shouldn't be too busy at that time of morning.
Will you be joining us?
No, I'm afraid I won't--I'll be at Muddy Hell and I won't be able to go direct from there. I'd love to, though.

What's the secret to getting through without jumping gates?!
It's a shame you can't join us, hopefully next time

Using this route will get you into Gatwick without involving any fences.....

Just a few changes to your route at the end of Lonesome Lane/Meath Green Lane. there is a lift and set of stairs that will get you up to the main airport.

there is a nice quiet section that runs from coulsden down to bletchingley that skips out reigate and the busier roads, misses gatwick and rejoins the current route at domewood.
i haven't got a route for it but i've ridden it and it heads down ditches lane to the right of the m25, as you look at the map.
was gatwick the plan for a stop? -

Personally I won't plan on stopping at Gatwick - however I think it's nice to have an option should it start raining and we need shelter or if someone needs some food/drink etc?

flight to somewhere sunny?

ha, yeah I wish

I'd agree with giving Gatwick a miss if possible - with a big group you run a reasonable risk of annoying the powers that be. If you go there I'd keep it low key - stow the bikes round the corner at Costa and and avoid staying as a big group. If it's just food and drink you want there is a 24 hr garage on Reigate hill and another (I think) just after the turn into Brighton road on the route instructions above. After Gatwick there's nothing.

Cool cool - well hopefully the weather will be great and we'll all be well stocked so can just cycle past! Cheers for the advice guys

Also chip in with the avoid Gatwick advice but...
A small modification to balmain's route is instead of turning right at Brighton Rd go straight on on Victoria Rd past Horley Station and onto the B2036. that way you get across the railway line without having to either go inside the airport or negotiate the dual carrigeway. The map shows where on that road the gate to get in and out the airport is.
Don't rely on being able to stop at Gatwick. When we did this route in May we were allowed into the airport but they were still a bit suspicious and had to radio for clearance from their seniors, on a different day you might get a different answer.

Ah I see what you mean - that's actually much better as you skip all the big roads around gatwick and connect to Balcombe Rd far easier.
Nice one, will make the changes now

@winston
it's probably a bit late to change the meeting point at this stage as we've already sent out the flyer etc etc and don't want people turning up to the wrong place and missing the ride
but I'll definitely try and drop by before hand to chack it out - cheers man, hope it goes well
Think I might give this a go too.
