  • Surely the trickiest part is fixing it securely to a wall.

  • I'd love one of these... Maybe even two...

How come you're offering them on your website for $300, but here for £65?
Or are you just stealing the other guy's design?

  • Good price but ^

  • Im not sure about this but he is custom fitting them, whereas the other guy I think has stock designs...

  • I'd love one of these... Maybe even two...

You should save your money for Oz... [/voice of reason]

Those things are cool BTW but doubt my crabon will fit in and everything else lives in the shed with the rats.

  • as i said custom built so will fit any bike size, just measurements required.

  • I think they're great but, bad juju if he's just nicked the design from knifeandsaw

    Just to reiterate.

  • Im not sure about this but he is custom fitting them, whereas the other guy I think has stock designs...

You mean, the other guy designed it and marketed it (with customisations on sizing available), and your "friend" stole his design to make a quick buck?

  • He hasn't stolen the design, he's just building something similar

  • That old chestnut.

  • I think they're great but, bad juju if he's just nicked the design from knifeandsaw

I agree with this 100%... I thought this was actually the Knife & Saw version... Bad karma beckons... And reported for your trouble...

  • Bullshit. He saw some other guy's sweet-as-fuck design, and decided to steal it to make a quick buck. FFS you linked to the original designer's blog post. If he's come up with his own design, where is his product spec and demo model?

  • He hasn't stolen the design, he's just building something similar

    Take the link away then.

  • do you think he could make one for a T shaped top tube? aka on my BMC?

  • He can make pretty much anything so im fairly sure it can be done.

  • Been done before...

  • Thats not a shelf though.

  • been done before...

    duh.

  • ok my friend has got back to me and he is going to make a sample, the design is similar but not identical, he has his own wall mounting system and he'll tweak it a bit.

  • I'd be amazed if he can replicate (not that he should be) anywhere near the quality of those original ones for £65. They are a real piece of craftsmanship, for £65 posted he'll be lucky to nail a few bits of 2x1 together and make a profit.

  • right, I agree with the guys here he HAS ripped off the design, most likely BUT... unless there's some sort of patent on the design/concept it's an open market and designers have to deal with it.

I would (and I'm sure you'll agree Hubot) wager the materials and tooling of the knife and saw version would be of a higher quality than those offered here. If not then, lets hope market forces come into play and knife and saw have to reduce the cost of their offering and free themselves of premium pricing.

    Macroeconomics rant over.

PS I know nothing about economics.

  • I havent seen a version of the shelf he is building at the moment but ill post pictures of his sample build when its available. Until then i just want to gauge interest in the product.
You can put your name down now and if you aren't happy after sample pictures are up then i can take you off the list.
