  • was constantly doctoring the date hand-stamped on my travelcard. I had a whole stack of them that I could choose from to doctor easily and also would use ones that were the right date but a year off and stupid stuff like that, or a month out, and just change the 5 of may to be 6 for June. I'm sure they knew and just didn't give a shit.

Ha, I'd forgotten about that. Excellent.
    Showing your (our) age.

Apparently only certain certificated guards are allowed to give out fines.
These are not the same as guards that sell you tickets or work the barriers.

The train company can't hold you against your will - so if you tell the barrier operator that you like to leave they have to let you through.

I've only tried this once though.

More information? I've been fined too many times in the past, I'd love to stick a clause quote up their arse.

  • Last time that happened to me, I flipped out and killed everyone in the whole town. With a spoon.

Repped for appropriate response and spoon use.

I've never got a fine before.. not sure how you manage to actually get caught.

Who gave you the fine? I understand they can only be given out by an offical revenue protection officer - which is a bit like a transport SCO

  • this thread is so sad, i'd be really pissed of if someone tried to get through behind me

  • doesn't really piss me off, i still get the journey i paid for and they run the risk of getting caught, and if they don't then all the better. doesn't cost me anything for them to get their ride

  • Yes it does

  • Your ticket subsidies the officers trying to catch them and wear and tear :)

  • what does it cost me over what i already pay?

I meant at a train station when you used you to be able to get on the train without a ticket. Then they suddenly stopped allowing you to buy tickets at the main stations, and gave you a fine. £30 there and then. Shitcunts. I would assume they're official since it's their sole job.
    Cycling ftw.

It really pisses me off everytime someone like you gives into the extortion and pays for their journey.

So Cheerup - You have it easy - there are lot more people like you than like me.

  • what does it cost me over what i already pay?

What you already pay is made of of Costs + Profits.

Costs include the wages of the people hired to stop the bum followers.

its always lovely to hear from someone who has fuck all respect for the other people around them and the community at large

  • What you already pay is made of of Costs + Profits.

    Hmmmm?....

  • is this going to turn into getting out of a phone contract?

  • Hope not, I'm hoping to find out more about how to dodge fares!

    Tommy -
Are you saying it's alright to steal as long as you don't get caught?
Doesn't that go against everything in this LFGSS community?
Why are others telling him how to do it properly?

  • I'm with Skully on this, and frankly I'm ashamed of the yoof here that they don't know how to slip the barriers anyway if they really, really, needed to. You don't even have to get 'too' close to the person in front and you certainly don't need pieces of paper. Perhaps that's the point though, the fact you don't know how to is based on the fact you've never genuinely not been able to afford a ticket but have desperately needed to get across town for an interview or something else potentially life-changing for example.

Bit like students who squat but can afford to pay rent.

No certainly not, obviously stealing if you** do** get caught is always wrong.
For those that don't get caught it depends on what they wish to achieve.

If its financial benefit then its self defeating.
    Train travel is relatively cheap.
Fair evasion is well policed meaning chances of getting caught and fined an eventuality.
It harms the society inwhich you live

I don't know what you think the LFGSS community is trying to achieve.
Personally I think if its trying to being a great forum for open debate from a wide mix of different view points with some occasional bike chat. Then its doing a great job and I don't see my post conflicting with this.

I honestly just wanted to know how the barriers work not have a daily mail type exchange of political statements.
I take a childlike interest in how the world around me works.. a complete FAQ on how to tailgate I was not expecting but thats what makes this place so great.

  • Tested this out Last night at South Rails latest all new 'super' fortress / Station at streatham hill.

Just one thumb over one sensor and the barrier stays open

Not that you need to do this at streatham hill.. all the staff are hiding away behind 5 inch bullet proof glass - but interesting all the same.

  • Hoping some forum legal minds can help me.

Recently I've been greatly increasing my knowledge of Train revenue enforcement models from the underground to the national rail system.

On one my research trips, I became parted from my ticket and was unable to present it to a Revenue enforcement officer and his police praetorian guard.

I agreed that such misscare with my ticket deserved punishment and agreed to intimidate restitution in the form of a £20 note.
(I have receipts of the payment)

However I now received a court summons for the same offense, likely to incur further cost and criminal record if found guilty (which ive already admitted to)

I feel this is abuse of process but not sure if their any precedent I could use

(wow did i really start this awesome thread three years ago!)

  • Surely this is a joke.

  • I've caught the train twice in the space of two weeks and seen people getting busted for no ticket travel attempts. Fun times.

If you have receipt of payment can't you contact them and send them a copy of the receipt?

  • He could've found the receipt on the floor..^

  • It would be a lucky find to match the date/time of the incident records. They seem to take a lot of details when they bust people.
