  • The Corrs?

    You're confusing shoegazing and windowlicking.

  • Bark Psychosis

    Ooooof! Jesus Christ...

    H.P. Zinker...

  • Slowdive. Can't believe no one has mentioned Slowdive. First band on the bandwagon once the genre was defined. They ticked all the boxes;

    1. From Reading/Maidenhead - check
    2. Fringes covering their eyes - check
    3. Hung out at the Camden Falcon - check
    4. All the songs sounded the same - check
  • I did, Jimmy-didn't-read-the-thread.

Being in a shoegazing band sounds like it was hell!

  • Thousand Yard Stare cover all those boxes too :)

Wow, they must have been very tall.

I stand corrected. Although you also admit to liking their second and third albums - which is nothing to shout about.

I played a gig with a Slowdive spin-off band called Blind Mr Jones in 1991. I leant them my electronic guitar tuner because the they didn't have one. Then they asked me to tune their guitars for them, because they had never used an electronic tuner. Bless. Six weeks later they were signed to Cherry Red and in the NME. Nuff said.

  • Come on, Souvlaki is BRILLSKILLS.

    I don't get it.

  • The joke or why I have attributed it to you and your hilarious style?

  • All three.

  • Oxford bands

    Radiohead
    RIDE
    The Jennifers(Supergrass)

  • Kevin Shields has given props to Dinosaur Jr, particularly J Mascis' influence as a guitar player numerous times over the years - while Dino do generally get lumped in with all the Seattle/g***** bands, they were always much more fuzzy pop than Tad-like sludge. There's a couple of sublime guitar-overdrive moments on the second side of You're Living All Over Me that wouldn't be out of place on Loveless, & Mascis' live Marshall stacks and ear-bleeding wall-of-noise around '87/'88 coincide perfectly with MBV's metamorphosis from goth-tinged C86ers into the leviathon of sound that made their name.

  • All three.

Explaining jokes ruins them. We'll just chalk it up to you being foreign.

  • he's just put one over you, mark

  • Ha!

  • Has he? Blast!

  • I lived in Reading 91-95 and the place was just drowning in Shoey foulness. Couldn't move for long haired (I'd come from the north west and had NEVER seen long hair on blokes before.) brown suede entranched fops mumbling about how "Alison doesn't love me". Hardly fucking surprising, you big fannies. Oddly some of them did pull which I never got, I guess the girls were lesbians and didn't click that Josh or whoever was actually a man. This riled me no end.
I'd left Manchester, Factory and The Hacienda behind for a load of flimsy whimsy 4AD obsessives. I'm not bitter!

I used to kick about a bit in Reading during that period
