  • Ok, I've asked for this before on here, but I didn't have the cash to do anything about it. Now it's ma Birfday and the wife be giving up some moolah! Woo Hoo.

Anyone have a decent stereo amp they would be willing to part with for £100-ish?

Needs to have a phono out, no less than 40W per channel.

    Thanks guys.

  • I got a Sansui AU-D33 recently. Great little amp. Only £27. Just saying you might not need to spend £100 for something great.

  • Cambridge audio amps are about £100 and 80 watts per channel at ritcher sounds. You could probably beat them down on price too.

  • Have got a silver Sony TA-FE 370 Amplifier. 2x70 watts, apparently. 40 quid?

  • Go for an early leak transistor amp ebay is your friend

  • get something nice and old on ebay, 100 bob should go a long way

  • rega, nad 3020, creek, cambridge , marantz ......all nice . leak is great too !

  • i had a nad 3020, really liked it

  • T+A, it's the shit.

    just plain good engineering

  • ah i think nad is only 30w per channel however bloody good value ! one on ebay for £20 17 hours to go .....

  • rega brio will blow yer mind , might be lucky and get one for £100 on the bay ....i sold mine for £160 about a month ago but i saw some go for less !
british made and 50w per channel !!!!!

  • I have an older NAD amp in the other room not getting used which I'd be happy to sell, not sure if you're still looking but let me know if you want the details. Think its a 3020.

  • Watts per channel is a fairly useless figure to buy an amp on - 30W per channel on a high end clean amp will sound bigger, clearer and subjectively louder than '100w" on some overdriven piece of crap that you can't turn up more than halfway because it sounds awful.

But Man, this had a volume knob that goes all the way up to 11....

    Correct.

Think my leak 20's are 10w or 20w total.

  • perhaps Kenwood AV KRF-V5050D surround receiver 5.1 pro logic, dts etc? I don't use it.

  • maybe it needs to be 40 watt for the speakers ? otherwise one will blow the amp i think ?

  • If he's got large speakers he'll need 40+ watts to get the drivers going.

I've got 130watts per channel on my amp, and it never goes that loud.

  • rubbish amp then, is it.

  • maybe it needs to be 40 watt for the speakers ? otherwise one will blow the amp i think ?

it would be unusual if the highest power a pair of speakers could take was 40W

  • There are a few forgotten gems that go for nothing these days. The Arcam Alpha II is a great amp with a superb phono stage, and I've got a Pioneer A300-R Precision, which is a model that got shipped to the UK, then a proper Amp guru called Tom Evans removed all the crappy components and replaced them with top-grade stuff. I think there were 3 levels of upgrade. It's great with vinyl.

  • I think I have an Arcam Alpha 9 pre amp and matching power amp somewhere you can have. Not sure of the wattage but it powered my huge B&W's so it should have no problem with anything else. Just have to check with my mum to see what she did with it.

  • Studio speakers, Studio Amp.

40 watts is enough to drive speakers, but headroom is always better in those applications.

  • Wow guys, so many options. Let me do a bit O research and I'll get back to ya'll.

  • If he's got large speakers he'll need 40+ watts to get the drivers going.

I've got 130watts per channel on my amp, and it never goes that loud.

To be honest, Although I'm a vinyl geek and want good sound, my technical knowledge is shit, so a lot of this info, however basic, goes over my head.

I have a pair of small Wharfedale Programme 50T

    Technical specifications *Wharfedale PROGRAM 50T*
    Version with transformer
    1 x 5.5" LF DRiver
HF DRive unit 3/4" titanium dome
    HF DRiver protection polyswitch
    Power handling music/peak 110V/70V line 7.5, 15, 30, 60W
    Sound pressure level peak 111dB
    Frequency response 40Hz - 210kHz
    Crossover point 2.3kHz
    Dispersion (H x V) 60 x 60

Nice little speakers but I only need to fill up a very small room with good sound.
