  • +1, although if anyone sees them in a 40 I'd be all over them!

EDIT: I think they're flats though.
    "parfaite pour pédales plates"

  • I've (today) got a pair of Shimano MW81 boots. They arrived at work so I rode home in them. Toasty warm and windproof but I'll have more to say if/when the weather gets colder as that's my main reason for getting them. Warm feet at all times makes me a happy titch. £120 from

I never got on with sealskinz, just ended up with socks full of water.
    I still swear by these

2 years in and still going strong, I also stole MOC's hiking gators so I dont get water running down into them. They are the mens ones tho, because of my big plates.
^they are the road version, I have the MTB ones

Are these both waterproof? There was actually water pooling in the toes of my sidi's this morning. And you really notice the chill, huh, even with awesome merino type socks.

  • Not if you have sealskinz socks.
    Totes dry toes today.

  • Didn't wear boots yesterday so soaked feet and damp socks for the homeward ride = idiot.

    According to blurb:

    • Prepare yourself for foul weather riding with a pair of Gore-Tex lined and insulated MW81 boots, and put an end to cold wet feet
    • Waterproof Gore-Tex liner helps keep water out, yet still allows the foot to breath improving comfort (not used in neoprene ankle closure)
    • Polyurethane coated leather upper provide protection from the worst elements and is highly durable
    • Tall neoprene ankle cover with water resistant splash guard fits snugly using a Velcro-style closure to help reduce mud and water ingress
    • Insulated liner provides much needed added warmth in cold winter conditions
    • Durable reinforced armour around the toe and heel can take the harshest of winter conditions in its stride
    • Aggressive mud-shedding rubber tread pattern for added extra traction
    • Cup-moulded EVA backed inner sole makes for a comfortable foot-bed
    • Texon midsole and fibreglass reinforced outer sole give a lightweight and supportive platform to aid pedal power
    • Three wide cuttable Velcro-style straps are easy to adjust even with gloves on, and they help provide a snug fit
    • Reflective detailing on the heel help keep you more visible in low light conditions

Will report after worn in the rain.

  • Not if you have sealskinz socks.

This is a slightly cheaper option than noo shoes, eh? My brain is just frazzled at the moment.

  • I wore my Lakes in the rain yesterday and can report dry feet and dry socks when I arrived in the office. I don't like the 'feel' of the Sealskinz socks. I've got a nice pair of thick merinos for the winter.

Cyclesurgery (at Victoria at least) had a pile of Lakes left (slightly different model to mine) today. I was seriously tempted to pick up another pair since I think they've stopped making them. They're £54.50 IIRC

  • I has some Nike ACG Rongbuk walking shoes for sellz. Size 6.5. Uber comfortable trail / walking shoe. Worn only a handful of times. £15.

    Anyone want?

  • Yes please if they're not too narrow..

  • Cool, think they're fairly wide.
I'm in Old St. office hours, polo in borough Mondays & Weds, or SE22 all other times. Any good?

  • Thanks. SE22 is on my evening circuit.. Will pm soon.

  • God bless this forum.

  • I bought a new bike with campagnolo look type pedals, so feel that the time has come to delve into the world of road shoes!

I'm leaning towards getting sidis, just because of the brilliant reviews they seem to get, do you think that's a bit of a risk for my first pair getting some so expensive, or should i go for something cheaper, and if so, any suggestions?

I tried on a pair of size 40 sidis with just tights on my feet and they felt ok but not uber roomy, so think i'd for for a size 41.

Just too many decisions to make!

  • my fisrt clipless pair were sidis and i loved them from the first minute. I think that you will lov them too. They come small. I am 38 eu and had to buy 39

  • Look at that! Last year model (I've got them) £87, 2012 model (looks identical to me) £159.99!

I'm UK size 7.5 and my Sidi's are 42! I was scared I will look like a clown but to be honest they don't look big at all! And I love them!

  • ^ Thanks so much for the advice and links.

Think i will go for sidis, but now just need to shop around so find the best deal.
I'm a UK size 6 or 6.5, but so sounds as though you do need to go up a size or so in these, so will go for the 41s. Hopefully can swap if they are a tad too big.

  • Oh, and unfortunately i dont think i can get the Giau's as i have a look type pedal rather than spd pedal...
I may be wrong though - don't know much about this pedal business!

    Hmm...I'm using those

  • Also I believe that at the moment Giau's are the cheapest Sidi's you can get! I'm really happy with mines, in fact I just ordered them for my man as for £87 you really can't go wrong!

  • Yeah you want road shoes, none of those are compatible sadly.

With Sidi's I think most people would recommend you try them on first, they come up really small. I'm a 6.5/7 buy my Sidi's are 42. The man in Condor fitted me, I think they're a bit too big but he pointed out that feet expand as you ride, so if you're going to be riding a lot / in hot weather, then go a bit bigger.

Sidi's are very comfortable unless you're going to be standing around a lot, in which case they're very uncomfortable IMO.

  • The man in Condor fitted me

    Same here :-)

Mines are really comfortable to ride, stand, even walk, but yes they are MTB's. And I did buy a man's version so I guess they are wider than ladies once?

  • Might try and pop into Condor then to get fitted!

Thought those MTB ones weren't compatible, so i'll need to go for the road shoes. Hopefully i can find some as cheap at the Giaus! Thanks for all the help everyone!

  • got these in the end:

a steal at £105. Not my ideal colour but v excited about getting them in the post soon!

  • Good price! Enjoy ;-)
