  • Any tips to get out of a long term phone contract with my ass still in contact as much as possible.

Have HTC HD2, 24mths (done 6mths), ~£30 unlimited interwebz, 500 mins, unlimited txts.

  • Fake your own death.

    The ONLY way.

  • Can you not just stop paying it when you close your account? What are they going to do? Hunt you down in oz?

  • anyone had success swapping with someone over here?

i remember i gave my mum my phone when i moved from aus originally.

in that case, anyone want the ph pm me.

  • I took over an o2 contract from a friend. Basically they just want the payments to come in, so we just stuck the direct debit onto my account.

It's still a hassle calling them though, I have to tell the full story every time and explain why there's one name on the contract and another on the bill

  • just run, i owe fido in canada $300. Fuck those guys!

  • Thank god your forum name isn't your actual name then ...

    oh.

  • If you leave and plan on coming back, your name/details could potentially be blacklisted. Best thing is for a friend to overtake it or you'll have to pay the contract out.

    Give them a call?

  • Someone once told me that leaving the country is an acceptable reason for terminating a mobile contract early. Not sure whether this is accurate, but it would be worth checking.

  • It depends which provider you are with. Even leaving the country is not a valid reason for ending the contract. I would suggest trying to switch the lowest tariff available and then ending the contract.

  • Cancel the direct debit and never respond to any correspondence ever. This is my preferred way of dealing with almost everything like this and it has never failed to work.

  • ok, actually had one of the nicest conversations with an O2 operator.

    a) cancel contract and have to pay remaining deal £375

    or

    b) swap to lowest tariff and let it run till end £150

but, hobo you make a good point, which is a combo of the two.

  • YOu going back to Oz then Dale?

I remember the cases of British soldiers posted to Afghanistan who had still had to see out their contracts. It was on Watchdog and everything.

  • ^ Scumbags. That's just not right.

  • Some waived the contracts, others offered discounts. Can't remember who mind.

  • i agree with hobo, just before you go, tell them you have lost your phone, and can't afford/want a replacement, then ask to go on the lowest tarriff they have until the end.
just set up a d/d to your uk bank.

You think that's shite? The Post Orifice won't accept a British Army Identity Card (MOD 90) as I.D. pick up a parcel. All kinds of other shite, including utility bill, no photo credit card, yada yada yada, but not that. Same deal for proof of ID for passport.

Scum should be totally ashamed of themselves. I was so outraged I wrote - recorded delivery - to HQ Post Office. Did they have the decency to reply - did they bollocks. Roll on the day they go bust and Fedex take over-barstids.

Devil's advocate: How would you feel about British government officials/ministers working overseas allowed to get out of their contracts? Or bankers posted to a foreign bank..

Mind you, Aussie soldiers get a lot of perks for risking their lives. It sounds to me like British soldiers get a fucking raw deal a lot of the time.

  • twat

    hahahahaha

Sorry bigtwin sounds like a twat - sending a letter to post office HQ because they didn't take is ID? Does the guy expect special treatment because he's in the forces? Fucking get a life...
