You just have to keep the vertical growth down, generally people don't cut enough off for the reason who've mentioned, I try keeping the vertical growth down to 1 or 2 buds , I'm sure there'll be someone on site that's eager to help you, also you can try different methods on different layers and see which works best

Does anyone need any turf? Had a bit of a maths mare and have about 25 rolls too many!
Free to any one that wants it.

Two weeks too late and 10 miles too North East.
But otherwise, it would have been a yes please!

I could make good use of your excess turf.
When would you want them collected?
Tomorrow morning in the rain would suit me. -

Great stuff!
Tomorrow morning is fine, I'll be home all day. I've already shipped it to the front garden so it's all ready to go.

Woke up this morning to the sight of four fox cubs frolicking in the lawn. They kept hiding when the parakeets flew over but otherwise they spent a good hour and a half exploring. There’s no food source so mum must be using the garden as a safe shelter for them.

Have a decent sized lawn - its pretty much a combo of grass, weeds, moss etc.
I remove dandelions and large weeds when they pop up - but other than that just leave it and mow it. Been considering going all out to get it back to just grass, but part of me thinks it’s a bit better for the bugs, birds natural environs etc just to let it be…

Stage 1 of my garden overhaul is to sort out a play area for the 2 year old... nearly there!

Not sure how relevant that US perspective is to the UK but I think it all depends on what sort of use you want from your garden? I've just ripped out loads of bushes and trees from my garden and laid turf but my reasons for doing so were that although the looked ok and was probably a good habitat for bugs they made 60% of my garden unusable and also blocked a lot of light. I like a lawn for walking, laying on and when I have kids I'd use it for playing. I think having an ornamental lawn thats as perfect as Wimbledon centre court is a bit bonkers but with the weather we have in this country it's pretty easy to keep a lawn without it being an environmental catastrophe.

Better to let it be, unless you want to host bowls competition.
Maybe reduce the mown area and let the rest of it go a bit wild?
mashers - can i have three?
i have bits for you, too, btw (car and plant based)
