wouldn't that heat kill bacteria and the good microbes ?

and worms and insects
-

They self regulate at the higher temps, if it gets too high the bacteria die off and the temp comes down. But it’s a high enough temp to kill pathogens in dog mess and to kill off seeds.
It doesn’t rely on worms and bugs.

Spent a lovely day in the garden yesterday. Fired up the lawn mower, dead headed the hydrangeas, picked up loads of leaves all whilst young Sophie who is now walking had her first taste of running round the garden. Gardening is great. What a lovely day!

Yes dj I didn't imagine yr contents needed turning with yr hotbin and I think for gardens they're the way to go although not sure I would ever put meat or dog waste in my compost bins also being a non meat eater with no dog I don't have to worry about such things.

Sounds bliss!
Saturday I planted all my seed potatoes at the allotment along with Radish, Beetroot, Leeks, Spring Onion, Parsnips, Brussels and some herbs. Cracking start to the year. -

Tulips look great! How slippery does the deck get?

It's not too bad actually. I oil it every year and sanded it down this year too. In the rain the kids will slide on it, but they are crazy.

Nice!
What kind of tree is that (in the back, on the right) ? -
• #2240
I don't actually know. A friend of mine once told me but I have clean forgotten.
She's coming to visit next week, I'll ask her again.

It's a nice tree!

If it's the shorter spiker one you're referring to, it looks like a small NZ Cabbage Tree.

Not sure if you can see from the picture but it is also very much on the piss. Its roots are behind that purple erysmium, the trunk of it is almost horizontal!

squints
Amelanchier lamarckii?Edit squints more, spikey thing in front or the crown at the back? Or is that a shrubby/climby thing, not a tree behind spikey thing?
-
• #2246
Amelanchier rings a bell. Good work!
-
• #2247
Crown at the back. It's a tree.

They’re usually peachy coloured blossom, white one is nice.
-
• #2249
Although, having googled I'm not so sure now.
Will post another pic when it is in blossom.

Ah, I thought the whiteness I could see was the blossom. Ignore me then.
The hot bin doesn’t need to be turned over.
