Enter 30 purple crocuses!
Daffodils nearly out and the gigantic Irises are coming along too. Struggling with my plurals today.

Anyone got tips for splitting tomato seedlings? Ended up with 3-5 per 2” cell.
Never done it before. I think they could go another week so they’re a bit sturdier.
They’re a bit spindly as it’s been gloomy.

Use a toothpick to very gently separate the roots, and only hold the seedlings by the cotyledon leaves. I need to get mine going soon!
I've spent the last few years trying to do far too much, and doing everything very badly as a result, so I've decided to try to focus on flowers this year. But I still bought 3 different types of tomato seeds, because I am terrible at sticking to my own plans, and also because tomatoes are delicious.

Cool, will give that a try. Easier with moist soil or let it dry out a bit first?

Easier with a bit of moisture - the whole process is easier than it sounds. Here's Monty with a video: https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-prick-out-seedlings/

Anyone got tips for splitting tomato seedlings?
Just keep the strongest and kill the others?
By the way I use CDs to level my pots as well.

Last year's "chuck grass seed at the ground and see what happens" kinda survived the winter. Weeded just before the Beast from the East and plan to reseed/overseed once the weather picks up in the next few weeks.

I’d rather not kill too many if possible as I’m a massive cheapskate so I’m gonna try splitting before pinching out the weaklings.
In other news beans are popping up, spinach and rocket are putting out their first true leaves.
Put up our mini greenhouse(4x2x6ft) too but so far it’s just got some radish seedlings and warming up some compost.
Much excitement for spring... -

Any suggestions on how to deter Squirrels? I am fed up of coming out each morning to find more destruction to my bulbs soon I will have none left.

Fair enough.
Might spread the seeds a bit further apart next time then

I'm going to try and make some chicken wire cloches, from thick, bendable wire and, ummm, chicken wire. #bluepeterstyleee

I think @General_Lucifer has a story about dealing with squizzles....

Indeed..
In my defence I wasn’t expecting everything from open, half-used, slightly soggy seed packets to germinate!Borlottis are emerging all over the shop today.

I have some big pots that had tomatoes in last year, with tomato feed etc. They've just been hanging out in the weather over winter. I want to put some sweet peas (flowers not veggies) in there now - do I need to switch out the soil for something more bland?

no, should be fine
@ffm
Sorted out those dead oak branches for your hugelkultur beds over the weekend.
Neatly trimmed to approx 9inch lengths and bagged.
