  • Yes!

This just a heads up for those involved in track riding on the national picture.
Some good news amongst all the gloom thats out there presently.

Tommorrow, building starts on a brand new facility for Bournemouth and Wessex,
250 metre outdoor track, similar to Newport, with full facilties. Construction is estimated at 3 months, and official opening prospectively end of feb 2011.

This has been nearly a decade in the offing and owes much to persistance of local cycling clubs, against vociferous opposition and duplicate Council hearings the powers that be saw the light- another competition standard venue for track riding.
Will post more detail as it becomes available.
(now whos got a high bb short crank track bike they want to sell me....)

  • Great news.

Now when the fuck are we going to get a nice 333m concrete track in the UK? We need at least one of each length.

  • i thought 'Wessex' was a fictional place in Thomas Hardy novels?

  • its very real honest guv just google this 'wessex cycling track league'
@BMMF better ask mr B.C about that one..Im so stoked as I wont have to get to Calshot-by-shingle.

  • Are there any pictures / plans? Had a quick google but only came across news articles. Good news though.

  • I had a 16MB pdf plan on my computer somewhere...

edit - Still have it from months ago. What's the easiest way to upload?

  • What was that Pifko you want to sell me your Dolan?

look into my eyes, not around my eyes....

theres a button up there ^^ try that

  • How did you hear about this anyway? Wasn't there a council meeting on cycling recently?..

  • theres council meetings every day that do nothing....Im in as few as I can get away with.
Working with Poole Wheelers, B.C area coach, S/W manager, club coaches at todays X race.

  • Thanks for that Pifko.

  • yeah nice one, see, 2008! two years delay because of some leery dog walkers.ffff...

  • Great news.

    Bournemouth rocks.

But the proposed track, "similar to Newport" in what way? just the size really.

  • What's that, 30deg or so?

  • good lad! do you happen to work on p.cs in an office at all?

  • What's that, 30deg or so?

about 32. and 6 ish on the straights.

Not sure how that will work unless you have restricted gears...

  • can you explain please? I know the Calshot standard gear is 81"
what would be restricted on that angle then?

  • Not sure, but a 333m track might have a banking of 32 degrees...

I guess a shallow 250 would have to have a restriction?

  • Probably won't be too bad. It'd only ever be a little too tight in a flat out sprint or behind a derny.

    People can get round Reading...

  • Exciting news anyway!

  • People can get round Reading...

But it's twice the size, 250m is usually 40°+
