I thought I'd treat it. I reckon the tires have done 5,000+ miles. The brake pads have done about 1,000, but they've already had to haul my heavy self to a stop a few hundred times, and are starting to stop stopping.

• #403
What pads did you go for?
I need some new ones for my audax machine - very worn from last year still.
Also I need my wheels truing where would you recommend in Norwich for that?

What pads did you go for?
God knows. Hold on...
2 x Schwalbe Marathon Reflective Kevlar City Tyre 700 x 32mm Black
2 x Kool Stop Mountain Bike Contoured Thrd Pair Of Brake Blocks Black
1 x CTC Plastic Bike BagAlso I need my wheels truing where would you recommend in Norwich for that?
You. Want to borrow a spoke key? If I got it back from Mark you're more than welcome. Can't remember if I did though, will check garage later.

Hmm I've heard good things about kool stop's It really worried me how hot my rims go on a 13% hill last year, I did have 20kg worth of luggage on my bike though. I think that's half the reason my wheels are a bit wobbly.
Is it really that easy to true wheels up? I mean can I really balls it up?
-
• #406
Yeah, you could balls it up. But if you're slow and methodical, and your wheels aren't knackered, then I reckon you could do it. Just do it in the frame, using tape or zip-ties against the rim as a marker.

My wheels are fine. Nice and strong and I've only noticed a slight wobble to be honest. Probably due to the weight on the back in France last year.
Decided I'm going to use my audax ride much more now, well until my knees feel much better.
-
• #408
I'm using mine a lot. Mostly because it's the only thing I've got with flat pedals apart from the Dutch bike, which has a terminal puncture.
-
• #409
I love mine I think It's one of them bikes the more I ride it the more I enjoy it.
Not the biggest fan of sora shifters but I don't really want to replace them at the moment - if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Wouldn't mind getting a triple up front - think that will be my next purchase.
Yeah good idea, I was tempted to put flats back on mine for commuting but I ride to work in SPD's most of the time anyway. Plus can I really be arsed to changed to clipless pedals every weekend when I want to take the bike out?
-
• #410
I have clipless on the fixed, the roadie and the MTB. I need at least one that I can just jump on and get to town with.
-
• #411
your touring bike is probably the nicest bike you own - jealous face, oh and I haven't seen your roadie up close yet!
I'm starting to think if I could have one bicycle it would be an audax ride, steel with carbon fork, pretty sure I'd be set for life then.
Maybe next year once the wedding is paid for....

Nor have I, when is it coming out to play?
-
• #413
Oh and Sparky all this ash cloud going on at the moment reminds me of the last one, us sitting down the playhouse talking about how strange it was to not see a vapour trail in the sky.

His tourers nice but the Donhou Road Bike is in a league of its own! All involved in the birth of that have earnt near to god status.
And on the 6th Month, Donnie said let there be 631!

Is it even real?

Is it even real?
For real. It's in my garage. It's B-E-A-utiful.
-
• #417
The tourer is nice in a functional way, but the frame is too small, the stem sticks out a mile, it's got some dents and scratches and the front rack is bent. It's a bit like a knackered old Land Rover that you still love driving.
-
• #418
Hack fixie. Built with front cargo rack and 70s Leco child carrier.
-
• #419
That's.....oddly attractive actually. I like the shiny forks.
-
• #420
Oddly attractive. If ya stuck a set of drops and a slim saddle you would be looking at a decent fixed wheel. It aint finished yet. Gonna ditch the cottered cranks for some tapered and get a load of parts painted up. Its an old Carlton frame with chrome lugs and alu forks! Fixie!
-
• #421
No disrespect! It was just the child seat with fixie element that I thought was unusual.
-
• #422
What size tyres?
And definitely ditch the cottered cranks, I have a Campag bb I'm selling if you need.

PS. Mark, gears seem fine on new wheels, gap must be just be to take a 10 speed cassette. Hopefully I don't find out otherwise when I'm miles from anywhere.
-
• #424
Haha. It is really fun. It was all built from about 10 different bikes. NOah loves it. I may take him to a pub out of town laters!

I agree. single speed for that is fine but fixed that's nuts.
I don't know how brake pads could try to kill you, but attached to the Thorn they'll have a go.
I'm looking at this. Probably won't. Might though.
