it's more half-arsed, apologist 'shared responsibility' clap trap.
RVH, you're an arse.

Yeah, 'they're' always coming out with stuff like that. -
• #9354
The perception some have of an "outgroup", e.g. cyclists, which results in members of the "outgroup" experiencing predjudice on the basis of collective responsibility is far from clap trap.
e.g. #bloodycyclists
-
• #9355
what you're referring to is collective punishment, the inevitable conclusion of collective responsibility.
-
• #9356
Yes, so it's not clap trap is it? In fact it has a fancy name, something like outsider homogeneous bias, for scientists to use.
-
• #9357
i'm not suggesting shared responsibility doesn't exist, i do however take issue with people that presume it is a defensible position.
better?
-
• #9358
The collective responsibility is projected on the outsiders, shirley - Why should it be accepted by them?
-
• #9359
^ thar

• #9360
In the current state (where collective responsibility is applied to cyclists by some) it does more harm than good for angry shouty man to film himself confronting motorists then post it on youtube for all to see and base their future outgroup homogeneous bias sciencefact collective predjudice upon.

-
• #9363
what flood?
-
• #9364
classic
-
• #9365
oh yeah the floods, how can I forgot, The government protects london the big city with the thames Barrier but dont care about rest of the country and people houses and property
-
• #9366
How did you forgot that? You dive.
-
• #9367
The Thames barrier is to protect from high tides and storm surges anyway. Not rain and poorly managed farmland.
-
• #9368
im sure theyll call themselves out when they get an injury
so in short...no

Have you ever had one of those confrontations where you think: What the fuck is your problem? Why are you so angry? Could it be that this prejudiced behaviour is based on previous experience with someone that to the average brain dead idiot looks like you? i.e. moves with a victorian contraption?
If that is the case, your point doesn't stand up.

So you are saying there's also collective responsibility for all black people because there are racists out there who will judge them all by the actions of one?

And dog owners.
And builders.
Etc.
I don't think anyone's saying it's right, just that's how it is. Educating the bigots is the ultimate answer, but in the short term you, as a gay, Asian, cat owning cheese shop manager being nice will make bigots think gay, Asian, cat owning cheese shop managers can be nice.
So be nice.
It's nice to be nice.

No, it just doesn't work that way. Bigots are particularly prone to confirmation bias. A nice g-A-c-o-c-s-m is either treated as an oddity/exception or seen as a nice person. Meanwhile, if somebody who vaguely smells of cheese steps on the bigot's toe, it confirms all their prejudices, This is how, for example, the myth of women being dangerous drivers survived despite the overwhelming statistical evidence to the contrary.
-
• #9373
It is exactly that logic.
Bigoted Attitudes towards black people all being criminals, Muslims all being terrorists, cyclists all being rogue road users doesn't change by black people stopping committing crimes, Muslims all abandoning terrorism, cyclists all stopping rljing, Dutch people all stopping eating mayonnaise and women getting back in the kitchen. They stop by society deciding that being an ignorant, judgemental bigoted fuck isn't acceptable.
Shit I can't eat Mayo anymore...? ;)
Maybe playing the victim is a way to deal with asses. Don't get angry but start crying explain at length how you take care of three adopted orphans and really can't afford an accident...

Indeed. So reinforcing their easily-reinforced bigoted stereotypes doesn't help solve the problem, pending the realisation of greenhell's everyone-is-judged-on-their-own-merits-at-all-times utopian fantasy.

• #9375
How are you supposed to know which group you are representing though?
I would hate to pander to the wrong bigotry.
Anybody who's not 'them' I suppose.
