Just had a read of the latest rider down and it's made me start this thread. We've all seen it and continue to see it all day, everyday. Without question it's something that sadly casts all of us in a bad light** and surely undoes all of the good that we do and possibly puts off those thinking of making the switch as they sit frustrated in traffic. Then there is the knock on effect if they have children asking to ride to school having had a good standard of cycle training, will never allow them on the basis their kids will behave in the same way they perceive many cyclists to ride:
stupid, selfish and dangerous.** I'm not perfect and have done daft/bad/stupid things so this could lead to the biggest case of double standards and is the biggest barrier for me.
Many women have spoken about feeling persecuted on the road as it is without having further grief coming their way from those on 2 wheels as well as those inadequate idiots on 4 wheels. I can't escape an immense feeling of stupendous arrogance in this proposed action but you know that feeling when you see folk doing things mentioned here and here? Is this just going to escalate tensions on the road unnecessarily? Or do I need just check myself and grow up?
some think they are untouchable -

To the guy who decided to race me this morning i was not trying to race anyone or even going particularly fast as unlike you I have been riding all winter,in fact i even slowed so that you would no crash into me.
I tried to shout at you but you had headphones in so did not here me! I hope you enjoyed sitting all day in the same clothes you were sweating in this morning.
Its amazing how a small rise in temperature brings out all the idiots.
I had another person last week have a go at me because as I was riding up Roseberry avenue like I do about 300 times a year. I was riding behind a bus and was on the outside waiting for it to pull in at the next stop where I was going to ride past the bus (I didn't fancy trying to overtake a bus )
Where from nowhere a fair weather fuck wit decides to overtake me on the outside as I assume I was going to slow. I had to slow down as he had not judged the speed I was going at and as he went past me he clipped my front wheel and nearly went into a bollard in the middle of the road. I shouted what are you doing and quickly rode away, when he caught up with me about 5 minutes later as I assume he is also an RLJ he had a go at me for tailing the bus and not looking over my shoulder as i would of seen him trying to overtake me. I did'nt bother pointing out that he nearly made us both crash.
I can see the accident statistics going up even further this summer.

The absolute level of accidents / incidents may rise, as more people take to the road.
Just as we are likely to see more douchebaggery on two wheels.
The rate of accidents per mile travelled / per person is likely to fall, however.
We all benefit from increased numbers of cyclists on the road, no matter what they are wearing.
Im all for more people cycling, I just hope that the more people that take it up learn to respect the traffic around them, other cyclists and pedestrians, at the moment I just find alot of aggression and naivety when all im trying to do is get from A to B.

Do cretins naturally flock to Altura fluoroclobber and Hump rucksack covers, or does this apparel turn normal people into fucking imbeciles? Hmm...
I think that many people who wear flouro think that, somehow, because of what they are wearing it is other people's responsibility to see them and they therefore do not have to look for what other people are doing in order to be safe. Complete speculation on my part but I cannot see any other way to explain the imbecilic behaviour that is often adopted by some of the people you see adorned in the shit, especially when you consider that they can afford a decent bike but otherwise have little interest in cycling.
Perhaps there are as many people cycling poorly who don't wear fluoro as those who do wear it. Perhaps it's a prejudice, and your mental set is skewing your percepion. Perhaps it's ***because ***they're wearing fluoro that you find it easy to spot them in the midst of performing their dick moves. Who knows.

100% of the RLJ'ing cunts who undertook me on Ken High St this morning were wearing Humps.
Now, that's not real evidence but it is scientific fact.

FFS I thought we've done this already!? Fucking idiots are fucking idiots irrespective of what they wear. Roadies, fixie skidders, nodders, casuals, fashioniastas, modeos, busses, foot patrolers.
I'm checking myself nowadays and only calling out those that jump where peds have the RoW. If you wanna battle cages of steel then go ahead! >>>>>
When I see cyclists squeeeeeezing into gaps and making new lanes that don't exist when waiting for reds, I've resorted to saying out loud "muuuuust get to the frrrrrront" in a daft, strained voice. Fingers crossed, eh?

I was one of 5 bikes already waiting at a set lights tonight, 6th guy wriggles through us all to get to the front of the ASL. I asked him if he was in a rush. He smiled, but I'm sure he cried on the inside as he knew he'd been called out.

People hate fluoro wearers because they feel it perpetuates a notion many have that we should all be wearing as much fluoro as can be worn as it's our responsibility to be as visible to innatentive dickwashes in motor vehicles as possible.
That and they associate wearing fluoro with uncool amateurs and they don't want to be associated with them.

^ I confess to thinking both these things

all cyclists are cunts.
all cyclists should be dickpunched on sight.i don't really mean this, but it's tough not to get disillusioned with cycling as a viable commuting option when the sun comes out and your biggest concern becomes the actions of other cyclists.
my route home for example.
the A200/tooley st/jamaica rd hosts a pedal-driven rolling cunt circus every morning and evening now that spring is on the way.
fucking bodies everywhere. kind of. -

^^ fuckinell.
Tonights Top Dick was the guy who undertook me at a red, had to skid to not hit pedestrian crossing on green man, then carried straight through into 4 lanes of moving traffic getting stuck in no man's land.
I asked him if he had to ride like a dick when I overtook him a few seconds after the lights changed.
There were at least 4 other contenders, but this guy won by a mile.

To the cunt with the orange racer who undertook me at the junction of vallance Road and Bethnal Green Road around 8.30 tonight. Learn to fucking cycle mate.
Perfect one this morning... Was just past bolan's shrine doing the right turn into upper Richmond road. Waiting patiently for the red to turn to green. Some elderly guy was also waiting on his dahon on upper Richmond road at a red, waiting to go straight forward- same direction towards Richmond. As soon as my lights change and the two lines of traffic surge forward he pelts it forward as well. Amazing RED as he decided to wait until traffic was moving rather than rlj 'ing when everyone had stopped.
Posted with my smartphone so bound to make me sound like a twunt.
