  • And spills crisps

  • Skidding makes you look cool and attractive.

  • This ^. But to pre-pubescent boys only.

  • Who else would I want to attract?

  • I know every cyclist is a friend, but it's apparent that some of my friends ride like cunts.

  • At the junction by Stockwell Station, the cycle super highway is in the middle of three lanes for those of us who want to continue towards oval / elephant and castle.

The road layout isn't great, everyone is forced across traffic into the cycle lane.

I was most unimpressed to watch someone going far too quickly across the junction and proceed to shove another cyclist in the back, obviously feeling that they had been unfairly cut up.

I caught up with the cyclist once we had got through the lights and asked them why they had shoved the other cyclist, they replied curtly "they cut me up". I questioned why they couldn't have just pointed this out to the cyclist instead of getting physical "but they cut me up".

I should probably point out that the cutter-upper was a pretty girl on a SS and the shover was an old boy, bedecked in skin tight lycra. Out dated sexist attitudes might have come into play somewhat, I did begin my interrogation of the shover by yelling

"I bet you wouldn't have shoved them if they were a bloke"

I felt better about myself afterwards

  • To summarise: Yes, it is time to start calling out bad cyclists

  • Why would you post a video of yourself riding like an utter twat and completely illegaly on the internet when 50% of the video is your face? Not exactly hard to trace.

  • I am not sure that CSI and their high-tech face recognition software are overly concerned with poor cycling.

  • Yeah but it just doesn't seem like a great idea...

  • His name and the filmaker's is on the video. Take 5 minutes for a jobsworth special to find out his address and have a £120 FPN on its way.

  • I think I need to call myself out as last night as I 'snotted out' it hit someone else 'a bit hit me in the face'.

I think that's a pretty rank thing to do but to be honest they were at least 15m behind me, if not further and I snotted out to my left and down(pavement). I always look around before I do it.

Do you think it is possible that I hit them?

It seems a bit unlikely given gravity (that and it wasn't windy).

I'm the first to admit my mistakes but should I now be waiting until I'm 30m ahead of people before I do this?

  • snot happens, bro.

in other news, i think the people i hate most are the 'no-handed' dudes. why? why?

    seriously, why?

  • Stretching. Rearranging bag/clothes. Boredom.

  • reminds me I saw a guy a few weeks back sail through old st roundabout, through a red, no handed, on the phone. amazed.

  • It's like a nuclear deterrent. introduce maximum risk for the most stability, all motorists with give him a mile.

  • This scenario shouldn't occur though. As traffic moves off, make eye contact (or other preferred communication) with next car back, then move out into that space behind the car that was alongside and the next one back. If the car that was to right whilst waiting then turns left, no worries as now riding behind it so can either slow up or overtake.

If you're going straight ahead, why would you take yourself out of the traffic streat only to force your way back in when the traffic starts moving again?
Why not just stay in stream before and through the junction and only when you've passed it, think about the gutter moves?

  • dont cross the streams

  • or the thames

  • HatBeard: Don't you cross the Thames to get to work? Living dangerously in the grim north.

  • Cyclists who willfully ignore pedestrians on zebra crossings need fucking strangling.

Dunno if anyone else has noticed, but the traffic lights at this junction at the top of Charlotte St have recently been ripped up in favour of give way signs and four zebra crossings. I see this as a positive, progressive move by Camden council. It's not only slowed traffic, but also smoothed out the flow so there are noticably less queues than before and no race away from the green light.

However, the whole thing is sadly let down by monumentally selfish bellends on bicycles. Most mornings this week I've seen pedestrians already on the crossing have to wait because people have no intention of stopping. Worse still, this morning a woman crossing in front of a stationary (not to be confused with stationery) truck was almost taken out by someone suddenly riding past the far side of it.

In the junction's previous guise it was always cyclists doing their level best to screw up by ignoring the red light on the segregated cycle lane on Howland St. This meant cars turning left had to constantly be on the lookout (and often give way to) cyclists who simply shouldn't ever be there.

Cycling like a twat through the old junction mainly put the rider at risk of being hit by a car. It's depressing that completely innocent pedestrians are now much more likely to be hit by a bike.

Indeed, I live on Longford Street (other side of the Euston Road) and I know that junction really well, and yes most cyclist did take the absolute piss on this particular junction. The Zebra crossings will at the very least make cyclists think twice about charging through it without taking care.

  • so many idiots ride down that stretch of road. the level of anger from the cyclists is terrible. made me feel ashamed to be a cyclist. not cool when chartreuse jacket wearing commuters scream at girls trying to cross the road.

  • Sunshine seems to bring out some two wheel magicians.

Big cheery wave to the fella on the Bowery who shouted at me this morning for NOT filtering up the LEFT hand side of the bus indicating LEFT.

    Winner.
