  • Blocking the pavement???

  • Have you seen Critical Mass? It's awful, just an excuse to be lairy idiots. Blocking the pavement is nothing to them.

  • Critical cunts.

  • I've been on loads and never seen the pavement blocked. Why would they block the pavements?

  • Harpoonist's explanation sounds pretty accurate.

  • 700 there, shame about the idiots, someone set off a firework in a tunnel too, wtf did they think would happen?

  • The more I think about CM....Too many bell ends whinging about wanting this that and the other yet will not improve themselves as cyclists, constantly taking up vulnerable pedestrian space yet moaning about drivers doing exactly the same thing...

  • The ones I've been on haven't taken any ped space, the inter-action with the peds was brilliant, loads took photos. At crossings peds were allowed across. This was ten years ago, it may have changed now. Old bill were fantastic, on their bikes and pretty strict if anyone was being an arse, a few times some young kids joined the ride and got a bit silly.

  • We just go to the start to drink beer, then the end to drink beer, seems much better.

  • This enormous pillock made my commute more stressful than it needed to be. Crashed into the back of me at speed because he's an idiot who can't ride a bike. He was riding like a muppet, pretending to be a bike messenger, taking loads of risks, but I passed him at a gently pace because he was all sound and no fury. Then the muppet crashed into me. Is he on here?

  • Interesting outfit he's wearing. WAC.
    Did he apologise?

  • With those shoes? he wouldn't have time to say sorry to everyone.

  • He half-apologised. I swore a lot.

  • He looks like he's wear rugby shorts, the sure sign off a accident waiting to happen.

  • Starting to feel myself becoming a smug prick in regard to the urban cycling practices of others. Have in recent weeks called a couple of cyclists out on red light jumping, usually after they plow past me through the red light, at which point I'd let out a chirpy "red means stop mate!", no aggression in my tone but more of a "ooh you know you're not supposed to do that and I've caught you" smug bastard note. Deep down feels like it's borne of some pathetic sense of social authority? What I'm wondering is where I sit on the spectrum of cyclist militancy. For posterity I hand off cars that come into the cycle lane when passing right turn-ers with gusto and dish out dirty looks crowned with the disapproving head shake to anyone that passes too close(when I catch up to them at the lights) like it's going out of fashion.

I mean this time last year I was RLJing like I'd just graduated from the Mash SF school of cycling. Think I might be a prick?

  • Think I might be a prick?

Well you cycle so that's a given. ;)

  • The fundamentalism of the recently reformed. Like ex-smokers, or evangelical christians, or ji.. no, not going there.

  • Total fucking tool on a brakless yellow (Canondale?) with a front rack, going south through the red lights at Borough crossroads, almost colliding with the blameless motorcyclists who had a green light. Much shaking of heads from those of us behind. Get a brake, stop trying to be trendy.

  • Nothing to do with brakes. Stop running reds is the answer.

  • I know, was just trying to make excuses for him.

  • I like to give them the "inherited colour blindness" one ;)

  • Calling out the complete and utter dickwand who decided to risk riding through the red light at the junction of Newington Causeway and Borough Rd, very nearly getting smashed by the van who was coming across from Harper Rd. Good skilz by the driver to stop but it was so so close and it that weather this morning. No real point either as we had caught him up by the next set of lights.

  • The more I think about CM....Too many bell ends whinging about wanting this that and the other yet will not improve themselves as cyclists, constantly taking up vulnerable pedestrian space yet moaning about drivers doing exactly the same thing...

Hey man, I just saw this from a couple of months ago.

These observations of yours have very little relation to my experiences of CM in the last few years: very little whining, selfish, inimproving cycling, lots of very cool attitude and very little bike-waving. I really don't think CM is as antagonistic as some here like to make out.

Like spindrift said, almost all the ped interactions seem pretty cool, and plenty like to make room for people to cross among the mass. D'you fancy joining me for a roll with cm sometime? Either to confirm your beliefs or to re-adjust them?
