CYCLISTS DISMOUNT
Signs telling cyclists to dismount tend to be irksome. There are none telling motorists to get out of their cars, for instance. The signs are usually to be found where cycle paths end or there’s a crossing of a road. You are not committing an offence if you ignore such signs as they are advisory only. That said, they may be placed in a location where there may be a significant increase in the risk of danger to yourself or other users of the highway so perhaps treat them as warning signs rather than instructions.
By and large the signs which you cannot dismiss are those which are surrounded by a red circle: these are signs warning of mandatory instructions. Think of the circle as an ‘O’, where ‘O’ stands for ‘order.’

That's interesting and I'm sure I've read it before but had forgotten about it. Are there any example of any cyclist dismount signs surrounded by a red circle.
I'm not militantly against dismounting when appropriate or required. There is a bridge local to me with just such a sign which has been closed to motor traffic for a few months for maintenance. I've always dismounted when using the carriage way which has been left open for peds (its wider than your average multi use path). But on a couple of occasions I had people make comments about me dismounting and other not, as ever we're responsible for the non law braking actions of our fellow cyclists.

Aaaargh yes, how silly off me. I thinking more along the lines of the words "cycling dismount" rather than the picture of a bike.

Saw one of the Southwark Bridge Cycle Surgery employees riding a foffa - generally a crime against cycling in its own right. Bike was single speed, rear brake only, probably to ensure his stupidly deep profile front wheel did not get marked by brake pads. The best bit was he could not understand there might be a problem not having the most effective of the two brakes on his bike. Not so much bad cycling but fucking piss poor bike set up.

This morning Mr Helmet filters to green box...then turns left against the red. Oh dear.
Lateron a whole pel0ton of cyclists turns right against the red, Mr Van Man was already pushing it, their tail went proper through red.
I'm not angry, I'm just disappoint ... Now to listen to a colleague complain how he hates cyclists cos he lived in London before and they all RLJ :p

I quite enjoyed whoever had D-locked their Dawes tourer to the railings between the entrance of platforms 8 & 7 ( inside the barriers!) at Kings X this morning. Just as I passed there were 5-6 staff trying to break the lock with cutters.
Some cojones or lack of basic intelligence just to lock your bike there.

And sweary hard man then rides off through a red light, probably because he realised he's not so hard after all.
O people, Y U so grumpy?

I called out a group from Team FECC yesterday jumping a Red on their club run. This after I'd passed them only for them to chase back past then situp, soz guys I'm not playing that game today. Other stuff too that raised eyebrows.
If you're gonna ride like weapons don't do it in team colours.

This is why I wholeheartedly approve of people wearing club kit on the promute. It's an incentive to cycle in a more public-spirited way.
Alternatively, if the kit's London Dynamo, you can give them a wide berth
