  • Yeah I get along fine thanks, but the perception that our roads are too dangerous and uncomfortable, largely due to high volumes and high speeds of motor traffic is problem to people that don't currently cycle.

    cycling-embassy.org.uk/wiki/bĀarriers-cycling

Is that actually the reason they don't, rather than why they SAY they don't?

    Q. Why don't you cycle to work?

Given Answer: Oh well y'know it's too dangerous ... yeah.
True Answer: I can't be bothered.

  • For the sake of my point, no. I don't think you should second guess people when they've given a straight answer to a straight question.

But generally, yeah I would suspect that's more likely the issue. That being said, there is any number of total valid reason not to ride a bit more often. It's interesting in itself that the first one that comes to mind when they don't want to say I can't be assed is "its too dangerous on the road" it's clearly the first reason after "can't be assed"

  • Bro, do you even helmet thread?

  • Has everyone fucked off yet?

  • I'm still here.

  • well....

  • I think for many it is. Maybe not commuting to work everyday but going for a ride every so often the traffic is definitely a factor. My girlfriend is happy to ride on canals or whatever, isn't keen on riding through central London.

  • Not me, but I'm just here for the pedanticism.

  • pedanticism

    Pedantry.

  • My girlfriend is happy to ride on canals

Didn't spot this though did you ;)

  • She has a pedalo, probably why she's less keen on riding through central London.

  • Fucking cunt this morning trying to undertake me on Shoreditch High Street as I was signalling left.

I checked my shoulder twice before signalling, then he started to overlap my wheel as I signalled left.

"Don't undertake me, I'm turning left"

"Fucking hurry up and do it then you cunt" He replied cheerfully in his heavy scouse accent (this is an important fact for football thread readers).

Ok then, so I slowed down felt his front wheel touch my rear wheel, heard some more shouts from him as he planted on the kerb and rode off to where I was signalling to. I don't feel bad about this.

Earlier in the commute I got passed whilst waiting at a red by a FKW Das Rad Klubber heading west from Leyton. I caught him up again at Hackney Wick, but then he diverted into Viccy Park waves

  • Bellend fixie skidder jumped a red at the bottom of Queensbridge Road when I had a green to turn right onto Hackney Road, I avoided being T-boned by the swervy prick then watched him try to ride from right of traffic to left to jump the pedestrian red light just after it and instead smash into the rear light cluster of a van and fall off. Damn shame that.

  • Bloke sweating his pies off dressed in a long sleeve winter jacket, sun glasses, white tennis socks pulled up to his knee and work shoes, riding a BTwin MTB rolling very slowing through the red lights at the junction of the Brixton Rd and Stockwell Rd, who caused a minor jam by getting stuck between a bus wanting to turn right on to the Brixton Rd and a van which was going straight across from Gresham Rd neither which could move as you could go forward or back as the lights had changed. DICK

  • In the moving car park that is the King's Road in Chelsea, a roadie in full HotChillee kit is filtering fast up the inside of traffic, and takes out a small kid that is crossing between the vehicles with his father & brother.

Accidents happen. Dads should makes sure they cross the road at appropriate crossings, cyclists should filter at an appropriate speed.

What is not acceptable though, Paul, is to go apeshit at a father that is trying to comfort one injured child pissing blood from his face, and also comfort his other hysterical son, and I certainly shouldn't have needed to get off my bike and move you out of the way.

You're an obnoxious little shitstain of a man, and you should be fucking ashamed.

  • WAC etc.

  • Aussie? I've witnessed much douchie riding by one particular Hot Chilleeite in that general direction

You may have to break that up into 4 or 5 tweets though...

  • or just stick post-link in a tweet.

  • You know I don't normally weigh in on stuff like this but I have to add, if you run a kid over your first response should be comfort the little sod. I don't care if he ran out in front of you or you swerved to avoid a cute fluffy bunny and ploughed in the child. If you can stand up and aren't in imminent danger of dying then you comfort the child. Admittedly this assumes a small child, when the reach the teenage years then its no longer an accident but more Darwinian theory in action.

  • This happened yesterday, but I'm having a shit day today, so time to vent:

On CS7 on Kennington Park Rd approaching the junction where it joins with Kennington Lane. Stuck in the usual massive queue of busses and nowhere to filter. I realised the junction was gridlocked, so decided to walk it instead. I'd been walking on the pavement a couple of seconds when some dickhead rode really slowly into the back of me. He gave me the no-eye-contact treatment despite me looking straight at him. I called out "just get off your bike mate, seriously". Obviously caught up with him 10m later at the actual junction, where he decided it was all my fault and told me I should have shoulder checked before moving across him! He tried to argue that I was being inconsiderate to pedestrians as if he had been a pedestrian I would have cut him up. The fact that he only hit me because I was going walking pace and he was going faster didn't seem to occur to him. Some people are capable of post-rationalising just about anything.

    csb etc. Therapy session/

  • If you want the contact details of the owner of Hot Chillee then let me know.

That said, just because Paul the grade a wankstain is wearing their kit, doesn't mean he works for them.

  • Thanks, but I don't think it's worth taking it further. Two people fucked up, one was a gobby prick about it. Shit happens.
