  • Does losing a tooth from the chainring move the wheel back the same as it would losing a tooth from the cog?

  • Yeah i would of thought so. I know my wheel is in the exact same place with 46:17 as it is with 47:16.

I got some slight wiggle room in the drop outs, i think with some trial and error i could fit a fix-fix hub, i know i can use 46:17 and 18 with the same length of chain, when using it as a fixie skidder that is...

  • The wheel moves by ⅛" for each tooth change on chainring or sprocket, and by ½" for each link pair change in chain length.

  • Orbit looking a bit more respectable, still plan on doing a few changes as mentioned ^

  • Fixed and small front wheel in a relatively recent TT:

Any obvious reason you're not running tri bars here? Will be building up an older TT frame and just thought clip on tri bars were compulsory.

  • The most obvious reason is that I'm not a 10-stone teenager any more, so I can't get down to the elbow pads if I clip tribars onto my lo-pro any more. Also, that bike is old-school legal under our club's rules, tribars would rule it out.

  • Ah I see, it now seems I have no excuse but to get down to some neck spasming angle. Will investigate if my club has such a category for older bikes too. Cheers.

  • My Casati lo-pro in current TT form:

  • ^ I showed that photo to the author of your wheel stand and he seemed very flattered!

  • Should be the The Encyclopaedia of Mamils

  • Ha, although OMIL would be more appropriate in this case :-)

  • haha - it just so happens to be pretty much spot on the right height, one day I will shell out for a proper riser

  • casati is fucking rad

  • Anybody seen a more extreme ratio of wheel sizes?

  • Anybody seen a more extreme ratio of wheel sizes?

Has the almighty 'tester never encountered penny farthings?

  • Good bit of lateral thinking, but I was really thinking about bikes with small front wheels. I was going to be more explicit with my comment, but in view of the rider I thought it would be needlessly confusing to ask whether anybody had ever seen such a small front accompanied by such a large rear.

The design pictured does actually come up as the result if you search for 'reversed penny farthing', as does its direct drive precursor

  • Tbh I think I saw a similar bike to the one ridden by the eccentric lady up there ^^^ at the nocturne, it was way more expensive though, electric and carbon but I believe it just had a trolley wheel at the front.

  • ^ no way to talk bout your mother

  • Anybody seen a more extreme ratio of wheel sizes?

  • At first I was ooooo but then I was converted.

  • Then I was slack chain, huge rear cog, pointless gear levers, root retainers with no straps and of course...converted

  • nice bike though!

  • Yeah, love the set back crown shoulders.
