Dreadlocks and riding

ive got really long hair that spends most of it life tied back and under various hats.

im thinking about getting dreads, but im concerned this is going to make riding very uncomfortable due to getting very hot and sweaty. also is it possible to wear a helmet?

anyone have any experience here?

bike destroyer used to have dread, but I don't remember seeing him ride with a helmet.

i've seen a courier with dreads and a bern helmet, with his dreads tied back.
so im assuming its possible, just take them into consideration when sizing your helmet

It may depend on your hair type but I could fit a larger helmet on top of mine. However I have fairly straight hair and it made the roots of them look quite depressed after a cycle and they only perked back up after a wash and dry (which takes hours on long ones) I also think it contributed to a bit of hairline breakage. I gave up wearing a helmet and now retain that bad habit.
Kindof obvious but if you get rained on they can hold a lot of water and become distractingly heavy (mine being waistlength). Can't exactly pop a brolly up on the bike.

In the end they were annoying me so I shaved them off...

He's one of two ginger people I know with dreads, not a good look.

the way to do it is to pass your dreads through the air ventilation holes in your helmet - looks mental trust me

I saw an old ginger who had really long dreads and a massive bald patch. He curled his dreads up and draped them over his head to cover up the baldness. So in one repugnant example of mankind he managed to combine gingeritis, a combover and dreadlocks-on-a-middle-aged-white-man-in-a-suit.
