There was apparently a 30mph limit, not that you ever get to that speed because of the stop start pedestrainsssssssssssss. I know it wasnt supost to be a race but that was PAINFULLY slow!!

Sound like you don't have a bar-end plug which is something you should install, it can cause serious injury.

My cheapo ones broke so i went the old fashioned way and just used two corks and alot of bar tape. Did the job for me?

I don't know but I've always wondered, why are open bar ends soo dangerous? What happens?

If this is your definition of a hipster you need to get a new dictionary.

As I said earlier, the course was too restricted--numbers are really rising by all accounts--even with a cloud cover, the turnout seemed much higher than last year, but the streets that TfL seem prepared to allocate to the Freewheel aren't keeping pace. Here's to next year and a greatly expanded course!
Will this happen? Like you say, TFL don't really seem willing to make too many concessions in terms of road closures. It's nice to see kiddies and grannies out cycling but I find the whole thing rather stressful - a bit like oxford street on a saturday...
...
I'd love it if they actually closed a square miles (or two) rather than a little pathetic loop.Sounds good, optimistic mind...

Wow wow RPM, I was just saying!!! and I live in Basingstoke, little bit more hilly over hear so i did have both breaks on but as my brake set were atleast 35 years old they got ripped apart on heavy breaking, Only had enough spare parts to rebuild a front break. As of tonight I shall have dual brakes :D

It was busy, and that was annoying, but it was great to see lots of people dust off bikes from the shed and realise that they could do it.
I helped out with the feeder ride from Sydenham => Greenwich => London on my penny. :-)
Chatted to alien and others not of this parish.
So it was a good day out.

Had a funny moment with some sky riders.
I had to come down from Sheffield to Guildford yesterday, necessitating a quick ride from Kings Cross to Waterloo.
I got onto Pancras Rd to get the lights right onto Euston Rd and as I was waiting a group of about fifteen riders came up behind me and asked if I knew how to get to the SkyRide. I just replied that I wasn't part of it and was heading off to Waterloo to catch a train. One of them piped up "Waterloo, that's where we need to be, we'll follow you." Alas I didn't have time to nurse fifteen people down to Kingsway, around Aldwych and over the bridge so when the lights changed I bid them good luck and sprinted it. Couldn't help but chuckle when I looked back to see a few still peddaling like fury and loosing ground.
I felt a bit bad but the seemed like an enterprising bunch so I'm sure they made it down there. Glad they got me sprinting as I made the train with less than a minute to spare. -

Every Sunday and holiday, every week, the City of Bogotá, Colombia closes down over 70 miles of roadways to cars and let people bike, walk, talk, exercise, picnic, sunbathe
Bogota have two millions people joined, 30% of the population, London? 85,000 in a tiny 9 miles loop.

Saw one guy with a trailer full of kids behind him and three huskies attached to the front of his bike pulling him along in true Arctic style. was fucking ace!
But yea, the whole thing was maddening. Nice to see people on their bikes, but geez the pace was slow

I managed about 1/3 of the route or less before we gave up.
The tunnel along Lower Thames St was so noisy it triggered a bad response from my beloved who has an inner ear problem at the moment. It was outrageously noisy in there, really quite frightening.
My 6 year old son was an exemplary rider on the small part we rode, miles better awareness of other riders and better roadcraft than the vast majoritiy of grown adults there. This encourages me greatly that my early road riding with him is going well.

He's quite fit. And he has a dog. And rides fixed.
He is cooler than me =(
Speaking of dogs:
I admit i was only using my front break but they didnt find that an issue it was something about my bars being exposed but they were the same as every one elses, i had to take my brother round and we picked up the checkpoints from richmond where the marshals did a bike check and crossed me of their list. They seemed fine about the one break jig just bitching about the end of my bars
