  • I live in a 2 bed flat in Islington

    :-)

  • I forgot to tell you it's ex council and 3 floors up but it's still mine(well and my Mrs')

  • "up and coming area"

    pukes on cock

  • Stay out of Streatham, it's shit.

    /doublebluff

  • ^ Fact!

  • is there anyone reading this from the brixton, herne hill, loughbrough junction, tulse hill area, that i can 'bug' for some information on the local area?

  • You won't get a three bed in Brixton or HH for £300k
You might in Loughborough Junction / Tulse Hill / South Norwood.

  • Don't move to Hackney, unless you don't mind getting beaten up/mugged/burgled and relieved of your bike all within a few months

  • yawn

  • SKinny - me and the OH live on the Brixton/Clapham border if you want to 'bug's us for some local info...

  • yawn

Well they did ask for advice

  • yawn

    Why yawn?

I've seen some, so i guess you can.

Just wondering what it's like really, living there? been for drinks but not extended time there.
Some people won't stop blabbing on that brixton is rough and bad and what... but i had the perception it's not so bad now, with loads of nice bars/cafes/restaurats and is a 'cool' cringe place to live?
    Thanks chap.
Also what are the boarders of where is okay to live around brixton, i'm under the impression; don't go north of brixton tube as it's bad, but unsure otherwise.

  • Brixton is fine. nice community feel.

I'm in Stoke Newington. It's also nice, church street can make you believe, if its quiet, that you are in a village. Good parks, cemetery.

But if you have the cash - a house in Canonbury would suffice.

those people don't live in brixton.

  • Thanks. I spent over a year between bethnal green tube and whitechapel so it's can't be worse than there.

The thing that leads be south over Stoke Newington, is that the transport connections seem a world better into town, unless i'm misconstrued over this? How would you get from S.N into central?

or they moved away after 7 years which is long enough to realise it's a shitehole. the gentrification only made it worse.

    cycle :) - takes 20 mins

    or the 73 bus.

  • The thing with buying though is it's not just you having to put up with a possibly shit area for a bit while renting - when you want to sell on or rent out your place you will have to deal with other people's perception of the place.

I moved to London 7 years ago and never thought I'd live in the 'ton. I was pretty scared of the place, but then I am a girl. It's had a lot of bad press. Some of it warranted, some not so much, in my opinion. We love where we live. We're just off Brixton Hill, so south of the station and i'd say that's the best bit. Personally, I wouldn't go north of the station and I'd avoid Loughborough Jctn. I work just along Brixton Rd (north of the station) and it's certainly rougher down that end.
The beauty of where we are is that we're really close to the 'nice' places in Clapham, but also the gritty streets of Brixton. I love it here and unless we moved out of London, can't really see us living anywhere else. I'm pretty proud that I overcame my own opinions of the place! There are 3 cinemas within spitting distance - Clapham picturehouse, Brixton Ritzy and Streatham Odeon. Streatham has an ice rink too, with it's very own disco most nights woohoo!!! Not that we've ever been...
2 bed flats go for about £270K, but you need to watch out for the postcodes!!! The next road along to us is in SW4 and they are exactly the same properties but are more than £50K more! Stick to SW2 postcode searches.
Travel links are good, if you can't be arsed to ride one day.
    Hope that helps.

  • just save your sanity, fuck off society and go here:

    /a>

  • Thanks littleheather good advice there. How far south of brixton is it okay to go? Or have you not ventured down that way? Is Streatham Hill/Balham, south of brixton okay?

  • Don't move to Hackney, unless you don't mind getting beaten up/mugged/burgled and relieved of your bike all within a few months

    Complete balls.
