  • Hmmmm, if you are on drops then perhaps look at the way that the brake hoods (if these are present on your bars....) transition to the bars. Squat down so you're looking across the bars and possibly move the brake hoods so that the line of the hoods makes a straight line with the bit of the bar behind it (need a picture here). If the hood and bar make a steep V then your hand is going to get smooshed (tech term) especially at the heel of your hand. This may be difficult with some shapes of bar and handle but it may in itself improve the situation.

Gloves with padding in different places may help. Flat bars- try different grips. Good luck- there are loads of things you can try....

  • I have done time trialling and done 650 plus miles a week training on the road and been to austria on many occasions cycling up the alpen roads for the past 35 years and never suffered from pins an needles in my hands until i went out a couple of weeks ago with my son on our mountain bikes,"ouch" pins and needles in my hands,. I went to the docs and he gave me a working ECG, nothing wrong, the only thing i can put my problem down to is, i will have to discover a different riding style because i am getting older, 47, i am trying everything to get rid of those damn irritating p and ns. By the way are you a smoker like me?

  • Have you read the comments about fit, flexibility, core strength etc?

You may just find as you get olde the above factors have changed

  • Hi All - Whenever I ride more than 25 miles or so, I keep getting numbness in the fingers in my left hand. I assume it's something to do with putting pressure on the nerves - any ideas how I can change the set-up on my bike to avoid this?

Have a wank right after a cycle with your left hand ... winner!!!
