He emailed me a whinge up a while ago asking me to edit my posts - he had registered on here again.
I just contacted velocio and his new account was deleted, end of.

I just got one gmail chat and one email, both from different people asking why I killed the thread and why they get special protection.
I'll bite.
I nuked the thread because it broke the rules.
I didn't know about the thread until caramel told me about it and asked if I could change the title or something as it was first in Google for them and they'd learned a lot and wanted to rethink things... but when I saw it I actually felt that nuking was better as it wasn't a thread I wanted on LFGSS anyway. Why? Because the thread shouldn't have survived 10 minutes if it had been seen by a mod... it should've been nuked on creation as being nothing more than spam.
If I hadn't been studying all weekend I would've nuked it sooner, that is my bad.
The thread broke the forum rules about selling stuff elsewhere, and I see no reason to leave the thread and to give them pagerank. I don't mind that this is what they were asking for, but I don't want to deliver them pagerank just for spamming us... the side effect of leaving a thread up just to be vindictive towards them would be that the spamming itself is successful.
The thread can be un-deleted (I never physically remove stuff, it just gets soft-deleted/hidden). And you're free to still lay into them if you want (it's not like you cannot start another thread or that would be deleted). I'd prefer the latter simply because the former was spam and I don't want spam to successfully deliver pagerank even if the thread slates the product. No-one is stop you having your rants, rant away.
Spam shouldn't survive. The rants you're free to do as much as you want. If you want to rant, start a thread and rant.

The wheel thread by them was spam
The thread started by me was not spam.
Unless I am secretly employed by them and working on the most fucked up viral marketing campaign.

James dear boy, leave it out. Until you started ranting, I had never heard of them and am rather hoping that I will not hear of them again.

I don't much give a shit about it either way - but DJ is right, the wheel thread was spam and the other thread (started by him) was more-or-less pure rant/bile/hate

Didn't we (the forum en masse) decide that it's appropriate (I think some one said we're obliged to even) to review these new bike shops.
I know we've been here before but in this current state, we have one rule for one, and a different rule for others.
I'm sure someone else will start a new thread on them if the non-spam one isn't resurrected.
I hadn't finished reading it though, shame. -

Ah, I didn't stop and check. I was just catching up on all the stuff this morning and made the assumption that it was a spam thread which everyone was reacting to (which is usually the case) rather than an out of the blue rant (which happens less often) so was quite happy to nuke.
Give me a sec.

Un-deleted.
But moved to Bikes & Bits where it should've been.

You know, I feel quite honoured.
Should you, though? Is it named after you, or after the more famous Velocio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_de_Vivie
-
• #287
Well if it's named after me it's half appropriate (his bikes look like I feel in the morning), and if it's named after Paul de Vivie then he's failed big time as he's no gears on his bikes.

Definitely, banned.

i am not a spammer! it was a joke!

I realise.
But there's a risk in quoting or repeating the content of spam.
When I delete spam I do so using a query that says, "find all other posts by this user", and after that one that says "find all other posts like this" and finally one that says "ban the users after the posts have been deleted". It's that middle query that can cause problems, if someone has quoted the spam then there is a real risk that I will be nuking that person when I nuke the spammer.

Disabled the iPhone theme.
It's a little lacking in a few areas, and I agree with hippy that the full site is now a better experience even if it is a bit weird in terms of layout.

You're assuming that Apple don't know better than you what's 'proper'. ;)
Not quite. Censoring would be to remove from the internet, but you can still find his site online. Which is the point, deleted is the thread that advertised stuff sold elsewhere.
I've no problem with the guy's intent, he clearly wants to make a buck by putting in time and money to try and create an affordable product for people... and I respect that (because he's put his money where his mouth is), but the forum rules are clear and he isn't yet a member of the community sharing something with us, far more someone who currently is just trying to flog some stuff to us... so nuked.
They actually asked for deletion, but I hadn't even seen the thread because of study and would've deleted anyway.
