Visually similar but slightly altered so skim readers wouldn't notice or if the name has emoji use a broken emoji link so it looks like a image fault

I don't think Jeez had 'Velocio' as his username, but I did see one post from him in which he'd copied Velocio's avatar.
-

A copied avatar and subtle change in the spelling usually fools most people at first glance.

I suppose the new ease of changing usernames might allow scenarios like this:
User A is called 'Velocity Boy' and changes his username to 'Velocio'.
User B changes his username to 'Velocity Boy'.Or:
User A changes his username to something else for a laugh, intending to revert the change an hour later.
User B quickly hijacks User A's former username. Are these cases possible?

interesting to see how quoting a quote turns out!

Are these cases possible?

I think you coded a quote then commented that

This is out of control!

Well, I just hope all that get stopped from the begin, even if it is just a joking game, before becoming the new national sport...

Profile names allow for more than ASCII characters. You can find visually similar characters in the vast range of ASCII+Unicode character sets.
Then... change your profile name to be almost the same as another person, change your avatar to be the same as another person... and viola.
To the casual user who might not check the link of the profile page, you are the other person.
For example: marc0m looks close enough to your name that most people wouldn't notice.

These scenarios are possible.
Usernames are unique, and you cannot have the same username as someone else.
So long as you don't change your username, you cannot lose it.
But... if you change it, then your old username is available.

Did I imagine it, or was @dancing-james username something else for a brief period earlier?
-
• #15343
Also, if you change your name back, the names on all the posts revert. Presumably signing up aliases under unique emails is too much of a faff for all but the most dedicated trolls. I'd imagine that once the novelty wears off there will be less of this sort of thing.
Can I have my username back now Bothwell?
-
• #15344
Spose. Was fun while it lasted.
In other news, does anyone want to buy a Volume Thrasher?
-
• #15345
And I thought Rama/eye had taken bothwell's avatar. :)
-
• #15346
Yep, I raised this too. There is an inconsistency between forum view and following view.
-
• #15347
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yessssssss.

read the FAQ, cheers.
so I should set this as my bookmark for the forum (like I had 'subscriptions' in the former version)
http://www.lfgss.com/search/?q=following%3Atrue+type%3Aconversation
this cannot be made the default 'following' page?
(I understand if it can't because now there's options as well to follow more than just conversations;

Shobeeng seems to be spamming for his "blog" which is actually part of his shop
Again, just a genuine question, how can someone take the identity of someone else? I mean if marcom username already exist how can you open another account with the same name?
