I hope I missed some of it, because if the stuff I saw was the cause of all the trouble, I'd be more inclined to ban the po-faced bedwetters who thought it was worth reporting.

Yeah, that followed a snip from a hardcore porn film that resulted in you being given a severe warning, in which you'd apologised before then posting the above a matter of hours later (thus convincing me the apology was hollow and that you didn't understand the warning).

Context is important... because I ignore minor incidents people, and that can give the impression that one minor incident is not a bannable event, and that each single post is innocuous.

But it's context that matters, as when it's the last in a stream of them... a pattern of behaviour... then "last straw" is definitely the key phrase.

Personally - I don't care if this forum was expletive and hardcore nudity ridden, and had more tolerance of jokey "-ism"s since I'm not squeamish about those things, equally I'm happy to abide by rules to not have all of that, and so should everyone else. But I do get the impression that sex/violence/rudeness is ok if it's on a bike, or funny, but not if it's not. Seems a bit hard to predict.

NB Obvious troll is obvious and clearly I don't mean someone who is majorly dicking about should be allowed to post a cock just cos it happens to be in a meme. Hi scoble.

When I'm moderating I I try and base that on how a random third party accessing from Google may perceive the page (and it's content) with no further knowledge of the site, or context from other pages in the thread.

So, 3 guys in shirts, generally smiling and looking happy sets a tone on the shirt content being a joke that is shared.

Whereas hardcore porn, or a meme which suggests like sexual abuse or rape, tends to look like exactly what it is.

And I caveat that as well... I don't read everything, I'm not omnipotent, and I rely on things being reported. In all of the recent moderation it's people reporting stuff that triggers me to moderate things, not me just doing so randomly. It is quite likely that some stuff wasn't reported that should've been, and vice versa (but I tend to ignore that).

Pretty much. But the upside is you get a cool place to hang out on the internets.

I make a point of never saying that these powers are privileges, they're not... they're dull responsibilities and if I screw up a lot of people will let me know, and if I get it right then seldom do people let me know.

It's basically time-consuming and largely thankless. But... the upside of having this place exist far outweigh the downsides of running it.
