  • repping you both..

  • why the fuck did nergatron get deleted?

  • Can I just point out that my Friday random rep is not misuse. It's just a spread of pure love..
I like to spread my pure love with an mother of pearl-handled butter knife.

  • These days, it's mostly a measure of how many good memes and sickbrn put-downs you've made. Which makes it useless for the only part of the site which actually considers it - the Classifieds.

Only sort-of. Rep is accrued by contributing to/being part of the community. This is important for classifieds as their rep indirectly reflects what others think of them, even if they haven't sold anything before. Maybe.

  • But you could easily be a really funny cunt. Loads of rep from memes but a bad seller. Rep fail for sales purposes. Wrong use of information. Sales rep should be an entirely separate thing. Forum rep would still be available as a notional way of judging people who hadn't sold anything yet, while standalone sales rep would be a hard measure of reliability.

  • Maybe rep should only be an option for core discussions. So you only give it for (in this instance) bike related answers, not all the otherjunk™ on here

    Edit: Pretty much ^

  • I haven't actually looked once in the Microcosm threads, from what VB has said about it here, the appropriate solution there would be separate rep stats for each subsection/microsocm/node/whatevertheyarecalled. If the current context is one you care about (e.g. sales) then the rep for that context will matter to you. Of course, that doesn't help here.

  • This place is beyond help.

  • beyond help

    Have you considered cycle training?

  • I have been cycle trained, thank you very much :)

  • This place is beyond help.

    And this is news????

  • ... an mother...

    .

  • In the new system I'm seriously thinking of making neg rep cost the person giving it 10x. That is... If a neg rep adds up to 10, then 100 rep points would be deducted from your rep. Seems fairer than having multipliers and would discourage neg rep... Is the equivalent of breaking your knuckles whenever you punch someone lightly.

How about a sliding scale, every neg costs you rep equal to the number if neg reps that came before, resets every year?

So first neg costs nothing, 2nd costs 1, 3rd costs 2, etc.

I really like the sound of a combination of these two ideas.

    first neg costs 0*deducted rep
    second neg costs 1*deducted rep
    third neg costs 2*deducted rep
    etc.

A small punishment for giving neg rep, that gets higher and higher as it goes on.

And that count decreases maybe once per month, so if you've given 3 negs during the past month, it would take 3 months of no negs to get back down to giving the free one again.

But that may all be overly complex for what it's wanted for...

I also like the idea of showing "total rep" and "this microcosm rep" allowing for better management of sale rep etc.

  • Why not rep rather nerg... you can still leave a "nergish" comment if applicable.

  • Do away with the whole thing (apart from classifieds), it's just silly...

  • Pisti will be back in time, and is very welcome to stay if he can just refrain from bullying others and purposefully being anti-semitic in the process.

marcom remains permanently banned and has not made any approach to me to have that ban lifted. Not that I'm presently inclined to listen given that he invested a day last week to signing my email up to every porn site he knew about (and Ars Technica, why?). It does nothing to suggest he'll act with consideration to others or that he no longer has a chip on his shoulder re: me, so I can't think why his ban would be lifted when that's what I'm looking to see.

But... TS, you're hardly one to advocate the return of bullies when you're busy bullying others too: http://www.lfgss.com/post3485804-20072.html

That's cool... forum self-moderation is a good thing.

But when it's the same usual suspects against the same other people, and when they've received very specific and harsh warnings in the past... then it should be left to other people to do the correction.

As it stands, it just looks like TS continuing to haunt the same few people, with the same shit-stirring. And then it's TS asking to let other shit-stirrers back, which doesn't look too good when TS is busy winding up the same few individuals he's been warned not to.

I'm getting kinda tired of it. There is clearly a problem with too much sensitivity, but there's also clearly a problem with a few people feeling that they really don't have to be considerate or show respect to others on here... both sides of that are shitty, and just because there's too much sensitivity it doesn't mean that people should get away with constant bullying, shit-stirring against others. And just because a few people are crap like that, it doesn't mean we should be overly sensitive either... as then we'll end up with a "hug thread".

Basically, both extremes are dumb. And TS should know better. And when I start expressing that I'm getting tired of the silliness of it all, that's when people should know my tolerance for bullshit is pretty low.

As usual, my default is to not ban someone. It's to wait and see whether they comprehend their own actions and make such minor adjustments as necessary to avoid it.

But mostly... I don't know whether TS asking for marcom and Pisti to be unbanned was a serious request (if so, from totally the wrong person, the people involved should just recognise their own behaviour and promise to try and not do it in future), or a joke (if so, I can't tell).

I appear to have pissed on the emperor's chips...

Why single me out? Cuz I stuck up for marcom?

    Shame on you...

  • It's never OK to waste chips.

  • mmmmm chips

  • Mmm. Pissy chips

  • Why single me out?

He's ageist and you are really really old.

He's a fashionista and you are really really out of touch.

I could go on but I'm distracted by the thought of chips.
