I've had a few people mention they are not keen on dressing up - so wearing Pirate kit will be now be OPTIONAL.

I'd say most will be dressed up in some way or another, I was just giving those who don't want to be a chance to come along.

Of course anyone not in some sort of outfit will be abused, soundly beaten and then left behind, after we have plundered their bike for parts and punctured their tyres.

It looks like a mile or so of the start of this route will be part of the skyride. Now it would be great to start with no traffic and the whole road to play on...or it could be a complete ball ache with heaps of nodders bumping into each other.

I've had a look at the website and it seems you need to register so I'm inclined to just move the start to London Bridge. Did anyone do skyride lasy year? Do you have to be registered or can you just rock up? Does anyone even want to start in the skyride zone?

I took the Mrs to Skyride last year and think that it's probably incompatible with this ride. It's billed as a way to hit the streets without traffic so it will attract a lot of families with small children and people who might not have been on a bike since Thatcher was in office. It's also very slow at points like a Fisher-Price critical mass.

I'm sure it's doable but it would be at least a headache. Would you want to lead 20 or so forumengers through streets filled with wobbly, unsure cyclists and small children?

^ahhhrrgree it would be hassle to ride through. though would be a spectacle and fun to watch briefly from a bridge perhaps seeing people suddenly realising that its fun to cycle and smiles and a good vibe all round
(and rich pickings for us pirates should we need to plunder some dayglo-gold or aluminium dubloons )

Hah, I remember that. It was fucking painfully slow, almost to point of falling asleep slow.

Right, that settles that then. I'll figure out a different start point and route this afternoon, once my lovely boss has gone home for the day.

Poor effort on the fancy dress front. At the least you could put a pirate hat on and stick a sword in your belt or summat!

The new start will be on the Southside of Southwark Bridge and the route will finish at LMNH for Bright Times shenanigans. The route is here and I've updated the op. We might do a wander around the O2 as well.

Tempted to bust out one of the longboats if anyone fancies being my rear admiral? Ooo eer.
