I'm the studio supervisor for a small modelmaking firm. I manage 3 members of staff, design parts and programme a cnc machine.
I was thinking of asking 4 - 6 k over. A salary of over 30k is getting serious in my line of work especially for someone of my age (29). Hmmm we'll see.
30k in london sounds right to me.
May not suit you, but have you ever thought of setting up your own business? I have friends who are making good money with their own model making and visualization firm. London may be a bit saturated though.

Didn't know where to put this but since the jobs section is in the classifieds i've plumped for here.
I'm going for a job inteview down in London next fri and I'm wandering what to ask for salary wise. Currently I'm being paid £24k in Aberdeen, for what I do I should really be getting between £28 -32k. How much should I add on top of this to adjust for the higher living expenses in London?
Cheers
ConanHi,
You should do research first about salaries in your field before discussing salary at all. There are a number of salary reference sites you can find by google. Check out similar advertisements and see if they quote salary range or check the trade magazines and journals for any salary data or links to surveys that may have been undertaken.
Never bring up the subject of salary, always let the interviewer do this. If they ask you what salary you are looking for, reply with a cagey (but friendly) 'what salary are you offering?' . Never lay your cards on the table, always be a friendly negotiator, especially if your job is going to involve negotiating with clients or suppliers.
Personally, I've just helped a client from Scotland land a job in the South East. The salary difference is about £6-7k and they've negotiated in some relocation assistance too.
Yeh I've got an Idea of what I want, I'm not exactly sure what the position is yet though. We'll just have to wait - fingers crossed!
