  • ...And how about aiming for a fornightly Wednesday womens's training ride (proper title and acronym to follow if enough demand...)

Emjo, Nhatt, Veevee, Tika, Tricity, Cafewanda, Jayloo, everyone else - any takers?

    ...

I'd be up for this - I'll keep an eye on the thread.
Anyone going to the track session on sunday?

  • Ello Habbi. Yes, do come out riding. Not doing track Sunday; doing a sportive Sunday morning and I expect I'll have no legs left!

  • Might make it out to the track...although I have taken my track bike apart.

    Hmm.

  • Did someone call?

Hmm. Training rides. My hearts says "yes" then my head says "you're slower than a newborn" with 700x28c wheels/tyres. Where's the 'fast' in that?

Seriously, I would be up for it on a Wednesday but am not sure legs plus hybrid bike are suitable and I won't get my road bike til October/November .

PS: Couldn't make 11 August in any event.

28c is fine, and I doubt that you'll be the only one who feel that you'll be very slow, the point of a training rides is to encourage every single one of you to push it.

Go for it, everyone was slow the first time they start riding their bike seriously.

except maybe Nhatt, she's always slow.

  • Can any of you guys who can't do 11th do 12th? Agree with edscoble that shouldn't worry bout being slow. We're all gonna be slow; then we'll get faster. That's the idea at least

  • Ed, you should feel lucky that I am not a wrathful moderator...

    That and you're right.

  • Nhatt, you're even slower that me...and that's canny slow!!

Although you were riding blind in the darkness...

Thanks for fixing my mechanicals btw - owe you a beer! I'd've wept if I'd had to do it on my own. I'd probably still be on that hill.

  • Yeah yweah yeah...I know, I'm slow.

    le sigh.

  • When are you going to put the Jack Taylor together Nhatt?!

  • OK count me in for 12th. What time? I work over at London Bridge til 5pm so will need to pace my food intake so I have enough energy to get to RP.

  • When are you going to put the Jack Taylor together Nhatt?!

    When it stops being cracked.

  • *cough*vazzysneeze

  • I have an event on the 12th, but other wise, I am down for this any other week.

  • I think it's about 6 miles a lap?

Three laps is about 20.5 miles with about 325m total climbing

  • Right now I'm happy to volunteer to ride 11th and 12th - 2-3 laps Richmond Park, whatever pace we can manage (moderate on the flat bits, fast down hill, near stand-still up the bumps seems to be about where I'm at..).

Caveat: Riding a 100k sportive on Sunday, so may not be friends with my road bike next week!

  • 325m total climbing

God, is that all..that's depressing. It feels like much more than that!

1765m on Sunday, I'll see you out there ;)

  • 1765m on Sunday

Holy fuck; that's gonna hurt plenty.

  • Will there be an ambulance and masseuse (sp?) and can I get a bike friendly cab home? I can feel the pain already :-)

  • Can't promise that, cafewanda...but there is a fab pub that we could happen to ride by on the way home - massive beer garden - perfect for a post-ride pint

  • Holy fuck; that's gonna hurt plenty.

Yes, yesterday's hills hurt, although I made it up Box, Leith and almost all of Whitedown...ok more like half of Whitedown - that's a serious bastard of a hill.

I've done something to my bike - going to have a go a fixing it myself but if need to take it into the shop, most likely won't be riding again this week.

If bike fixed - definitely up for a ride. Need to get some miles in and get my speed up!

Since when were you a lady or started going on forum rides?

    ;)

I'm determined to a. get fast then b. get fast up hills

Yes, sounds good! Can't do this week though – been off with the lurgy (me, cycling and rain do not mix) – but next one for sure. Let us know how the route goes on Weds.

  • Jenny J - congrats on the ride and hope you manage to fix the poorly bike.
