This sounds pretty bad. Fingers crossed for the cyclist.

I am very sorry to report that the news is tragic and the results of the injuries sustained proved fatal. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the rider, a young man, from Brazil.

Am very confused, Helen Pidd, a journo with the Guardian has just told me she called the Met (11.30 on the 30th) to get confirmation on this and they have told her the rider (hit on Tuesday, male, 20s) is in a serious but stable condition. Am getting conflicting points of view, and obviously news like this tends to take time to filter through big organisations like the Met, but does anyone else have confirmation? Everyone hoping for the best, obviously.

and nothing on MT or bill's twitter either, though it's not even been confirmed if it was a courier.
hoping for the best for this rider, whomever he was.

a friend of mine was forced on one me those cycling awareness things this morning after rljing and was told it was a fatality. It is possibly the wrong place to speculate but could there be a political motive in not announcing this to the press today? Rip. -

I wondered that myself about the news blackout. Really hope what we're hearing are incorrect reports.

I am very pleased to tell you that the earlier, very well meant advice was a direct report from someone at the hospital who had confused two reports, and it was wrong. It has taken some time to get it definitely confirmed, but the young man is in a serious but stable condition, and although injured, is very much alive. I know nothing more than that, but am very pleased to be able to correct the earlier posting and would apologise if my own mistake caused any concerns.

That's such a relief. i had been scouring the media looking for reports about this believing there to be a media blackout because of the launch of the hire scheme.
Perhaps there was a blackout as a cyclist knocked down in outside the houses of parliament by a cement mixer, if true, would normally have been jumped on by the media.I wish the bloke a speedy recovery
Any more news on this anyone?
