  • My misses has just phoned me to say there is a crumpled bike under a cement lorry on parliament square turning left up to whitehall. Air ambulance trying to land I think, no other info as yet.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/paul_clarke/4834105840/ via Londonist, no info from BBC Travel apart from 'delays due to accident'

  • Oh god. And right outside parliament.

  • hopefully the powers that be might start to take notice. i fucking doubt it though.

    fingers crossed.

  • That's horrible. Thoughts with the rider.

  • They would if it were a politician.
    Fingers crossed they are ok

  • Really hope they're ok. And i hope every politician takes a look out the window and does something to finally change this all too common type of collision.

  • Its recess today isn't it?

    Hope the cyclist is ok.

  • Another pic of the truck here , no sign of cyclist but it doesn't look great - off to the Royal London they go.

BillBuffalo just tweeted that one of his riders had stated it was a cyclist. And a truck... again.

I knew it had been too quiet for too long. Hoping for the best for the rider.

  • And confirmation it's definitely a cyclist from the Twitterverse by someone who works in Parliament:

    http://twitter.com/jamiewasley
"Tragic. Cyclist hit by cement mixer at Parliament Square. Air ambulance in attendance. Looks like bike hit from behind as it is under cabin"

    ...and....

"With Parliament a big draw combined with the hire scheme there will be many more bikes around. Something needs to be done NOW."

  • there were plans to make parliament square much safer for cyclists.

    boris ditched them.

  • went through at 6:30am today.. didn't see no choppers or blood on the road.

    Must have happened after

  • Part of it's still shut. The accident investigation unit busy measuring and photographing. Fingers crossed.

  • Happened not long before my first post

  • Measuring and photos... not good.... and on my birthday too...

Hope there is a good outcome. Does not look good though.

  • Unsubstantiated, but maybe not a fataility.....

I really hope that's the case. Keep checking back here fearing the worst. Horrible.

  • fingers crossed

  • was nearby today and I heard a policeman recounting the accident to colleagues. I overheard him suggesting that the cyclist may have lost a leg but was alive. Whatever the case, thoughts for the cyclist.

I cycle that bit everyday and it is slow but not fun. Lots of busses, coaches, taxis all vying to get in the right lane

  • need your wits about you on that busy gyratory
    heal quickly and fully mate
    thinking of you.

  • It's incredibly cycle unfriendly, especially the bit heading towards Westminster Bridge. Hope the guy is alive and remains in one piece.

  • Rumours on the courier circuit are that it was a fatality, but couriers are a bunch of gossipy old fish wives, so make of it what you will.

  • my thoughts are with him. really hope he is ok.

Fingers crossed it isn't. Hope the fella is ok.

  • Me too. That square can be nasty, all my thoughts are with the rider.
