Easier done than said, 650b wheel set are easy to get.
Big 42mm tyres will be amazing, also mean the front load will be easier to handle too.

"lightweight monster cross"
You're going about it all wrong...But here's a pair of 650B adventure bikes for you all the same.

Also, why not a Cross Check? They're fucking awesome. Disc Brakes for MCX bikes are overrated, at least until we get more hydraulic drop bar options on the market.

Proof that just because you can make something, it doesn't mean you should.
Diffrinstrokes.

That's the future right there - just switch wheelset to suit the terrain.
Tyre widths for cross are based on tradition and regulations rather than what works best (for many people).

I love me some 40+ knobbies on my CX bike. What I don't love so much is carbon/alum framesets for Monster Cross.
But I like to bitch about "harshness"

I prefer the ride of a decent alu/carbon-fork frame to a crosscheck any day. It's quicker and more fun. And I can still dent it ;-)

It's all gravy, I thought the same at one point...

Whilst that guy defiantly modded the forks on his Salsa Vaya; I'm pretty sure that this is a whole new bike built by Garth L'Esperance, the geo is different to the Vaya when you look at them side by side:

If i do do it, i'll be getting a dynamo at the same time, so custom wheels.

Yep you're right, didn't read it properly. Favourite bike I've seen on the forum this year so far anyways, like his stuff a lot.

You mean custom front wheels.
Rear wheel can be anything.

If you're going 650b, there's some massive tyres you can get, like this in 62mm;
If it's too big, then the modest 50mm Big Ben is ample;
One of my alltime faves too.
