Interesting things coming from restrap

Shame such stuff doesn't really work with drop bars. Unless you're Chris Horner.

Out of interest
How much can that bag hold? -

That's an 8L bag with a TNF Kilo sleeping bag, bivvy, silk liner and rain jacket stuffed into it.

Dry bag is an Alpkit Airlok Xtra, harness was knocked up on the sewing machine in about 15 minutes.

Any chance I can plagiarise your harness design in exchange for beer?

It can work, but I have a lots less hand position that way, I can no longer be able to grasp the top of the bar comfortably without the bag getting in the way.
May not be a deal killer for most people, but having a bag against the flat section of the bar can be frustrating on a long distance ride.

Sure thing, it's just a couple of rectangles and some webbing but you're more than welcome to take a look!

Agreed, anything more than an couple of days riding and I'd probably get annoyed with it on the drops but for a trendy #microadventure it's a lot quicker and easier than making a saddlebag! Even on flat bars it's a bit annoying when you try and grab the centre section of the bars, might get some stubby bar ends and mount them near the middle of the bars to grab instead (Jones bars are still too expensive!)

Not sure if the appeal of older-rando bikes is growing on me or it's the thought of touring France, wine and baguettes...
If you do go touring in France, go where this picture has been taken; it's the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Senanque next to Gordes and the whole region/surroudings are just absolutely beautiful.

Not my photo, should click through to the source. Have just been looking at the area and it does look amazing... lets see what happens next year...

Cheers, having looked at instructables I still can't picture how to put one together properly so a close up look will help loads.

Yeah @andy_k as you show it does work, but as you say it is annoying. I couldn't do it as I like to ride 38 bars and so shifters would hit the bag for sure. Also as you say can't ride on tops really.
That's cross check setup is what I'm leaning towards. But with a narrower front bag. I reckon it's the ideal setup.
The French bike a you posted are how mine is setup now and it does rock. I really want to get on eds elephant and see what low trail feels like. Really interested!!
Spotter. You can do dynamo light cheap. But if you're getting a dynamo you might as well spend the money, get son and get a plug so you've power too. I know I will do that when I can.

Since you have 120mm stem on your 60cm Genesis, you'd need 150mm stem on my 60cm Elephant!
Me too; I would very much like to build something similar.
Next project I think!
