kind of, the rear derailleur is STI's, and the front dearilleur is for the downtube shifter.
***kinda ***make sense since you'd rarely shift the front derailleur.
?
It makes not sense. Unless it broke and that's a temp solution.

one main reason I can think of is that it's easier to maintain if there's a problem.
-
• #629
Maybe. But then you just think why not have a bar end? Even if you wanted one brake shifter.

I really didn't know quite where to post this but it would have to pass the functional test...
You can read all about it here:
Strange they didn't go with a split saddle.

Sprem bike just made my day. the bigger picture being mentioned in the comments on the sperm bike page, corporate advertisting, have interesting things wheeled around cities I think would grab more attention than billboards on bikes kind of thing*
*is it just me, or when I see a billboard bike I look at the machine and how it functions with much more interest than whatever is on the back of it? Nope? just me then >>>>>>>>
Also this bike is lush, but why would you want dog shit flavoured drinks bottle? -
• #632
Agree. A bottle there will need a lot of rinsing before you'd want to drink from it. Possibly 750mL of rinsing, which is a a logic fail.
-
• #633
as someone mentioned earlier......quite often you put your spare fuel for your stove in a bottle under there....*sigh!
-
• #634
Well if you're drinking meths, you're probably not bothered I s'pose.
-
• #635
You've met Murtle then, SF?
-
• #636
Yes meths could be useful if your camping. Dog shit? Probably only if your touring in the local play park!
A bit of dust on your bottle is alright, and things other than water bottles fit in water bottle cages. Such as battery packs, tool tubs and wotnot.

unless you have mudguard, of which the bike does have.
mine didn't get dirty when I rode it, but then I did have mudflap as well.

I'm assuming the bike is "foldable"? The placement could be be a design compromise. It's clear it has a ST cage but perhaps no space for a DT cage?
Any pics of the whole bike?

why go to the effort of putting those shifters there when you could just have sti's

can't really see a problem TBH, it's a touring bike, you hardly going to race on it to required sti.
those are more convenience than downtube shifter frankly.

To me the torch is the most ridiculous part.

Because friction shifters are more reliable, and easier to repair

Armstrong used to run a DT shifter for his front derailleur, apparently so he could fine tune the FD position on mountain stages, something that isn't possible with STIs I believe, though never used 'em myself.

commuter porn?
Who makes these beautiful front and rear racks?

i've never ridden a bike with a front rack like that but my guess is that since it is attached to the frame, not the fork it doesnt move with the steering so it probably doesnt matter that much. Especially if its load is small compared to the riders body weight.
