  • JB all this scoblese quarter life crisis aside are you ever going to get a serious road bike? I sort of liked your thinking behind the BMC or even the stainless ..

    #ridefastdieyoung

  • Yeah, I will. When I get back from the States I intend to start planning/saving for a Canyon or NAHBS wankery. I've not yet decided.

  • nice one and canyon

  • I don't know what I'm doing with bikes either, I think I want to make the talbot lighter, and get a more practical bike for commuting on

  • I'm settled.
My bikes are just about as fucking awesome as they will ever get.
Though the Geek needs a new rim.
Also I went for a ride/ TT and forgot about that postal bike.

  • Yeah - jealous of your Geek(s). Did you manage to sell the cross frame in the end?

  • I'm glad I didn't cave on that postal bike. It went mental in the last 30 seconds. Was £52 with 30s to go.

Yeah Cross is gone. Only 1 Geek now. But that bike is unbelievable to ride.

  • 650B Straggler very slowly taking shape. Still need to re-route the front derailleur's outer cable to match the rear, tape the bar with Lizard's Skin and choose a saddle (the Cambium is a loaner).
The SKS longboards got damaged in storage so I'm probably going to order some Berthoud and have them powdercoated. I'm thinking something else than black but I'm not sure yet.

    Looks lovely.

    No.
Or do you mean Pink Geek- because yes- it has to stay with my parents due to space issues here.

  • That ride is most tempting, I'll put it in my calendar.

  • I meant the cross geek.

Lolo, what wheels/tyres did you go for in the end?

  • .... that postal bike. It went mental in the last 30 seconds

    Went postal, in fact

  • Wheels are Kinesis Maxlight, they ticked a few boxes without being too expensive so I thought I'll give them a try.
Tyres are Grand Bois Lierre. The original plan was to get the Soma B-line, basically a Pasela as I really rate those in 700c but the UK importer did not have any in stock. I think you can't go too wrong going for any Panaracer-made tyre, regardless of the brand (Rivendell, Compass, Soma, Grand Bois etc...).

It won't make a difference, I find getting fitter made the bike feel much better to ride, I learnt that from the Genesis when l wasn't in shape, after a couple weeks, it felt much more responsive, comfortable and smooth (okay maybe a bit of position fiddling was involved in that), give it time, give yourself some plan, and work at it, it's also a lots cheaper than a new wheelset.

Your thinking (apart from weight) is why I commissioned the Elephants as a tough all round bike that I can abuse.

Tour, MTB, even TT for shit and giggle, I always like messing with the bike, the Elephant gonna be great for that (700c with 25mm tyres, slammed drop bar and tribar for example).

  • Lizard Skins tape a bit shit for practical bike, as my g/f can attest to.

  • I need to play with the position of the tent/dry bag on the back but it rides pretty damn well!

  • I have cotton tape over cork on the pomp, I fancied something a bit different. I like the grip of Lizard Skin.

your right, I just like fiddling.

  • considering an AWOL on cycle2work.
