Getting moving on making my own Swift Ozette knock off and ordering a mini front rack for it.
I want it to mount at the mid-fork eyelet as I'm probably swapping to a fork without canti bosses in a few months time and don't want to have to get a different rack. At the moment Nitto M18 seems like the best option - is there anything else worth considering (read as either cheaper or of a similar price but with eyelets for a light)?

Have been trying to figure out a way to DIY retroshifts. Think I can get 1x9 done for 30 quid, using tektro RL520s and a modified thumbie . Hopefully it will look better than this
Be sure to post results. Sounds interesting.

How about a salsa minimalist andy? Not sure if you'll have the mounting capabilities at the top of the fork, but it definitely mounts mid fork.

I do, thought about it but there's no tombstone for the rack and it's only £7 cheaper than the M18 at Kinoko right now. Forgot to include that in the original post.

Bar the paintjob this is almost exactly what ed's bike will look like, right?

I'd say it's highly likely.

Almost exactly, even the same TRP brakes, the main difference is down tube shifter and traditional cable routing with a longer top tube to run a shorter stem (more room for a porteur bag and slightly less dramatic toe overlap with 2.1 MTB tyres).
Paint may be black with pink CK headset, or US post blue with red headset.

Get the M18, I have one, and they're very adjustable for all kind of forks (with or without p-clip), Nitto being Nitto, you know they'll stand up for the purpose, I wouldn't really trust Salsa given their habit of recalling their components with such regularity.

Good to hear positive things, took the plunge late last night after a couple of saisons. Should have it on Tuesday!
Material is marked out for the bag, just got to finalised one or two details and then start cutting and stitching!

Edscoble, did you have problems mounting the grand bois on the Hope's you gave me? I have had huge problems and still haven't managed to do it. The tyre bead gets stuck in the central channel of the rim and I've not managed to get the bead to sit properly on the rim the whole way around, therefore can't mount the tyre. I've mounted a fucking rando with more ease than these tyres. What a PITA.

Pump the tyres up to an insane amount of pressure (usually at least 100psi) to pop the bean in place, then deflate to correct pressure, it's pretty normal with the tubeless rims.
It sound scary but it's the only way I managed it, did the same with my 650b Crest, even with MTB tyres.
