That English I think is a repost.
I think it could be the ultimate uk winter road bike. Love it.

Mudguards are shit though

Yes, that's also a repost.
I think the slightly shit 'guards might be 'homemade'? So it's creator-pride vs dry-feet.

Meh, he can make a good bike so why not make good guards. So much of his stuff seems to be different just to be different.

• #4158
Amazing. Not sure 53x11 would get used much.

Possibly not, but I doubt he'd ride with those knobby all the time.

am i missing something.... why do all these bike just have front racks? most have mounts for rear pannier racks, but are ignored in favor of a rack that will through the bike off balance when loaded up(bar the pashley post bike)......i use my front rack as a last resort, only when my rear cant take any more(oooerr misses)..... fashion over function?
-

It's simple - those bicycle handle better with a front load because they were designed to, it's function over fashion.
It's better than a pair of panniers, or a saddlebag (apart from those bikepack kind), as they do affect how the bicycle feel when you give it the willies whether a front rack with a load make it easier to accelerate.
I actually ride with a load on my bicycle as it was a little too nimble without a bag, it made my old Cannondale CAAD10 feel less nimble when unladen.
Pashley post bike isn't exactly the best kind of bicycle for a front load.

I don't think all these bikes were designed for a front rack, Ed.
-
• #4165
So I guess the trail and rake are setup so the bike tracks well with a certain weight? Does that make them suffer at other weights?
There are racks that are independent of steering. Wouldn't they be better?

Unless smaller tyres are used you'd have to hit 50mph before that gear was useful.

No you're right, not all, the all city one I doubt it's idea for a heavy load, but the last one definitely is.

front racks are kooler

I've forgotten the name of them, might be Salmon Profil?
I have a pair in a box which I bought but then decided not to use.

Lower cadence perhaps? To be fair there's not much cassette you can get that have a low 13/14t like the old freewheel, I even modified my cassette as a 13-32 as I never use the 11t cog on the Genesis.
-
• #4171
Plenty of chainrings though that'd let you ride around the closely spaced cogs on the cassette.

• #4172
but 53tooths are kooler

And aerodynamic flaring with a big bag too, like Dammit deep section wheels, it probably a placebo effect but I like the placebo effect either way.

That's a fucking compact when you compare it to Pantiani 55/44t chainset.
Big ring it dude, big ring it!
