  • I like Legor bikes but I'm quite surprised to see them build a sensible bike. Very nice.

DFP is (as ever) full of shit with the tyres comment. 28s aren't a bad choice.

  • My surly disc trucker. Used for everything apart from rain storm days !

After going through Morocco, 28c is too skinny.

  • Morocco being the middle-of-the-road when it comes to touring conditions?

  • The point being tyre choice is really personal. It depends on rider and bike weight, and how you like to ride as much as anything. It's ironic the only person 'wrong' is the one sitting behind a computer telling others what they want.

    Absolutely lovel bike that!

  • I've racked up my Raleigh

  • This is my crosscheck with newly fitted front rack from SJS. All I need to do is fit a grippier tyre on the front and I'll be set for the inevitable bad Autumn / Winter weather. Front rack is mainly going to be for carrying locks etc on days when I'm filling my carradice (which I seem to in the winter, having to carry bulkier clothes), so I figured spreading the weight would be wise. I also like the way front racks look. This one was only £15, and for the money I'm impressed with the quality, it's also not too heavy (290g) and unloaded I've not really noticed a difference to handling.

  • One of my favorite forum bikes:

  • That looks like a lot of fun. Gizago?

  • Gabe, I want that so bad!
Who thought a Pre Cursa could be that awesome!

  • are you sure thats a precursa? i wouldn't have thought you could get a rear tyre that big in one?! if so then awesome.

  • That's not a pre-cursa

  • It's an FXE.

  • Do they still sell FXE's?

  • I thought the FXE was steel.

  • Thanks guys! :)

Its an FXE indeed and aluminum. Its basicly a Pre Cursa (with the old proper track geo i.e born with 75deg HT) with spacing for fenders. You can't buy it anymore unfortunately but sometimes they pop up here and there.
Front fork is a Quantec CX Disc. Can be bought cheeply on Bike24.de. Don't get fooled by the name, its actually rather good quality and eqaully as light the Kinesis DC37 (700g ish).

  • Aren't they at least 30mm? Regardless, they'd look fine dressed in a decent set of fenders.

It has some fairly sturdy looking front and rear racks suggesting it will be loaded fairly heavily. When carrying stuff you need either more pressure in your tyres or larger diameter to stop them bottoming out on potholes. The increased pressures can make for a very harsh ride which is not only uncomfortable but puts greater stress on all parts of your bike making component failure and injuries more likely, so fatter is better. More comfortable, safer, reliable and even faster.

  • I've toured with tent/stove et cetera using 28s, worked for me.
    I wasn't in a rush, so I forewent the 32s.
    hyuk hyuk

  • DFP's internet expertise runs to knowing the weight of rider, load and road?

    ;)

  • Yeah whatevs, I mistook the function bikes etiquette to be similar to the bike porn etiquette. Which is to throw a hissyfit if there is the slightest thing that is not optimal.

I am also pissed off because I have 32c on my own bike and am finding them harsh as fook.

  • The fewer hissyfits the better IMO.

How do you know the bike is going to Morocco?

Its great that you've been but you must realise most touring bikes in the uk will probably not leave the UK or Europe, where roads are generally pretty good.

The fact that this bike has done a 'photoshoot' probably suggests it been made more for looks than proper riding.
