FD or just manually swap rings? Im just lazy and dont mind the aesthetics. Will probably try ram a 40t sprocket into the 10 speed gx mech as well for max low gear

Just swap. The bike is only for long distance stuff, so I generally know which ring I need and it stays on there a while.

Not sure the best place to ask this but this thread seemed as good as any. I'm looking for a set of decent, ideally cheap as fuck cantilever brake pads to use on an old mtb that will be ridden primarily on the road but maybe a little bit of gravelly canal path and things like that. Must be good in the wet as this will primarily be my awful weather bike.

Oh and reccomendations for budget 26" mudguards would be appreciated too!

I bought some £20 levers, calipers, pads, noodles et al., from ebay/amazon. Resist the temptation because they were so shit, soft metal, play in the levels, stretching inner cable so thats what not to get.

I think I have some Koolstop Eagle pads somewhere if you want?
