an idea position is right under the stem to keep it away, but always depend on the bicycle, i.e. how long the headtube is, how many cable, front rack etc.

Its only there for the photo. Its usually under the stem aparantly.
Thats a custon Ti Fatback (made by Lynskey), with full carbon fork, and about the best fat wheels you can build (IMO). The words 'bike lust' dont even begin......

Purely hypothetical question, but could you fit one of those steerer extenders to a carbon steerer or would it just rip it off?

I should imagine it'll be fine but if you're putting an extension on a fork with a carbon steerer I think you've got the wrong bike for the application...
