struggling to see how you'd make the most of a 55mm tyre on a 21mm internal rim.
Why? it work fine on that rims width.

Won't it want too squirm out at low pressures? It's well out of the range advised on Sheldon's tyre size chart.

Just saw his chart, I'd take it with a pinch of salt TBH.
Old MTB rims are usually 17-18mm internal, it's only recently that MTB have 21-23mm internal width as normal.
I'd says this is much more accurate (althought you can go one smaller like 23mm on 17mm internal);

Bear in mind that a lots of tyres, especially MTB work best when shaped like a light bulbs, otherwise you risk the sidewall being exposed.

^ This, lots.
Conti RaceKing are really nice on wife rim as they've a very rounded profile anyway, TrailKing great on wide runs too, nice and squishy. Conti Veryical though not so much. Sidewall too thin so they puncture easily once you put on a wide rim.

I didn't know px sold those rims unbuild/trackbuilt.

They don't sell them at all any more, cleared them out at £80 a rim a few years back and they got hoovered up by hillclimbers. I'd love a pair, 250g!

By Old I would guess you'd mean 90s; in the 80s they were still pretty wide.

That's lovely. Do you have more pictures of it? What chainrings are you using? 34 and 52 or so?
-
• #10747
Thanks :)
They're Middleburn ones, very lovely. 34/50 - not sure the 50 is really necessary on a bike like this though- would prefer a cx double like 34/46.
On that note, does anyone want to swap a middleburn 46 for a 50..?

Just came here to post that.
Looks an awful, awful lot like the Santa cruz stigmata... just half the price..
I think Sun Ringle still makes the Rhynolite in a welded version.
