There have been some horrible ones, for example Lily Allen's Smile. But in their defence, you can't polish a turd. However, I thought this (like the majority of their covers imo) was really well done, and i'm a Journey fan so don't come off with any of that "It's ruining a classic" crap that people tend to spout =P

I had the displeasure of listening to the first 5 seconds of Eliza Doolitles album yesterday and it took me about 20 minutes to recover

I cannot remember why I watched it, but I saw a youtube-type video of Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson covering 'Valerie' live. Not only did the beehive-headed crack-fiend look like a waddling, pot-bellied yet anorexic old man in badly-applied drag, she sounded utterly, utterly awful; totally out of key and no doubt out of her jar. And that Ronson fella just ponced around a bit flicking his permed hipster-combover around and pretending to play guitar. It's my own fault for watching it but I'd still like those two minutes of my life back.

How do these people achieve success and fortune, I ask you? Anyway, that's my nomination for worst cover.

The worst cover version, ever, no contest, is a version of 'Walk on the Wild Side' by Holly and Little Joe, i.e., two of the characters in it. It's like a cowboy version of it with German-accented shouting of the lyrics and several awful mistakes. I have it on a CD but it's not on YouTube.
