I know you say no silly offers, but I'd suggest £995 was a silly price. It's a 50 year old second hand bike!, so lovely as it is, I'd suggest it's worth about half that amount to the right person.

Actually £995 is a good price for a fully restored frame that has been painted by BJ, quite a lots of these part are hard to come by, and cyclotouriste/randonnee frame are often highly sought after.
My Holdsworth despite having some modern part, can be easily sold for £600, if not more, if it can be sold that much, so can this Jensen.

Based on what fred.frederick?
This a stunning bike and is worth every penny, I'd even say it's good value and is representing the forum rules to the letter, it'd go on the bay for quite a lot more.

I understand the parts have a lot of value, perhaps it would be worth more parted out. Personally, I think either people buying second hand or the second hand market (i.e sellers) have gone a little overboard.
Agreed that it is stunning, but will anyone here buy it, rather than just comment on it's lovelyness?. That is the question.

No...the question is, how much would a bike like this cost you to build...? Having see the bike in the flesh, and seen the attention to detail...and seen most of the people that walk past it trip up...or point and look, (even the girls...!)....this is where the money comes in...it would cost you a damned site more to build such an exquisite thing....part it out? eaten cooked meat lately?
I'd say you try and get as good a bike new....no matter second hand for less than a grand?
Pop yourself to Mercian and see how much a bike like this would cost you to assemble, and then pop along to Bob J's while you're at it...and then when you get back off the floor...you can say what a pretty bike and it's quite reasonable at that too...

Funny as I wouldn't dream of letting my Hetchins of similar age, go for so little!
and it isn't pristine like this.

It was first advertised on Bumtree for £1700.

I could build up a similar frame with the same components for less. In fact, all my bikes have similar quality of componentry (if not finish) and I doubt whether 3 x said bikes cost me as much as £995 (if you look hard enough, there are many places where you can purchase old bits for reasonable prices, ebay not always being a marker for market value).
Yes, second hand does matter, once it's been used it's value goes down, to around 50% value of new (unless the lot is but 6 months old, say...). I'm sorry, but you don't just get to have a jolly on some machine, then try to pro-offer in to the market at the price it cost you (if not more), that's just not cricket! (even if your market is used to paying far above the odds for riding the trendsetter wave).
I know there's this idea that if someone will buy it for x amount then it is worth x amount, but tbh, if a friend paid this much, I wouldn't know whether to congratulate or console them.
1959 Jensen. Built (as it was originally) as a French-style Randonneur bike (see www.vintagebicyclepress.com for more on these). Fully 531 butted of course, 58cm.
Stunning restoration, with paint by bob jackson's. Mostly French components including Stronglight 49D (with rare guard ring), Berthoud mudguards, TA racks, vintage French lights, powered by BB generator, all working. Leather hand-stitched bar sleeve on GB randonneurs. Milremo stem, was painted with frame. Large flange hubs with Mavic MA2 and paselas, MAFAC Racer brakes and levers. Rare Barelli pedals. Lots of lovely stuff all over the bike. A dream to ride!
Very sad to let this one go, but needs must! Daughter's college comes first.
£995. No silly offers.
Handlebar bag and 'decaleur' (support on stem bolt) not included.
Honey Brooks saddle £40 extra, will not sell seperately.
Can deliver London or A1/M1 corridor. Too posh to post!
Note that pics show 35mm Michelin world tour tyres fitted. These can be supplied instead of 28mm paselas if you wish.
